balkanmuslims: A wedding tradition among the Torbeshs and Gorani in Kosovo and Macedonia is the carrying of the bride on a white horse, when she is leaving her family to go live with her new husband. She is veiled and carries an umbrella, and her clothes, the umbrella and the horse are all decorated traditionally. She bids farewell to her family and is accompanied by the villagers to her new home. Musicians usually follow them, playing instruments such as the zurla, tupan and accordion. At her new home, her in-laws welcome her. This is an old pagan custom which has survived among the Torbeshs and Gorani, who are Muslim. -- source link
