delicateflowers-of-the-past:July 17th 2018 marks the 100th Anniversary of the murder of the last Imperial Family of Russia. In the early hours of July 17th 1918 the Romanov Family waited with four servants in a cellar, waiting to be moved out of the house they were currently being under house arrest in. The house was given the eery name “the house of special purpose”. By that time the family had already been imprisoned for more than a year, moving to different locations and kept in strict isolation. After some time, guards started to fill the room and Yakov Yurovsky, the commandant of The House of Special Purpose read aloud the order given to him by the Ural Executive Committee: “Nikolai Alexandrovich, in view of the fact that your relatives are continuing their attack on Soviet Russia, the Ural Executive Committee has decided to execute you.” Nicholas, facing his family, turned and said “What? What?”. The order was repeated and guns were then raised. The shooting killed Nicholas, Alexandra and a few of the servants. The gunmen shot chaotically, it’s said that some of the gunmen had been drinking so it made the murder even more sloppy and gruesome. They shot over each other’s shoulders until the room was so filled with smoke that no one could see anything at all in the darkness nor hear any commands amid the noise. When the smoke cleared it was revealed that the children and the remaining servants were still alive by sewing jewels inside their corsets and pillows. To prevent the noise of gunshots being heard outside as by that time households had already been awoken by the noise, the gunmen used with their bayonets repeatedly stabbing them in the chests and firing more gunshots at their heads. In total it took 20-30 minutes to kill all 11 people in that cellar.May they all rest in peace. -- source link
