budapestbug:Unknown Hungary - Nagyborzsony’s medieval churchThe tiny romanesque church was built in the 13th century, before the mongol invasion of the Hungarian Kingdom, and miraculuosly survived almost 800 hundred years. The small settlement’s people must have been brave and determinded to defend their homes: after the devastating but unsuccesful attack of the tatars they carved 19 tatarheads outside of the shrine’s wall. But actually there are 20 arches, namely 20 places on the wall. Legend says, the twentiest was left empty as a warning for mongols: if you come back, there is still palce for your heads! -- source link
