gunrunnerhell:U28Now and then I post bizarre military history stuff. Last time it was about the Red Army capturing & executing “Bigfoot” like creatures while on patrol for partisans. U28 is an interesting story. The German U-Boat had torpedoed the British steamer the Iberian. A violent explosions aboard the doomed and sinking ship was documented by the U28’s Captain, Commander Freiherr George G von Forstner.Much to his surprise, a large crocodile like (60 ft long according to Forstner) creature was blown up into the air with the explosion, landing back in the water, writhing and struggling in pain before sinking under the water with the rest of the debris. Those who believe the story theorize that some sort of surviving member of the Mosasaur family had been attracted to the sinking ship, much like sharks are but was caught in the explosion. It would seem rather strange for a German U-Boat commander to make up a story about blowing up an aquatic crocodile especially during wartime.“At that moment I had with me in the conning tower six of my officers of the watch, including the chief engineer, the navigator, and the helmsman. Simultaneously we all drew one another’s attention to this wonder of the seas, which was writhing and struggling among the debris. We were unable to identify the creature, but all of us agreed that it resembled an aquatic crocodile, which was about 60-feet long, with four limbs resembling large webbed feet, a long, pointed tail and a head which also tapered to a point. Unfortunately we were not able to take a photograph, for the animal sank out of sight after ten or fifteen seconds.”Source -- source link
