Reblogging this from Elisa Lam’s Tumblr.I’m really not happy with the docuseries on her death. Everyone wants to paint it as something mysterious, haunted, and awful event that they forget that Elisa was a woman that struggled with mental illness.Elisa wasn’t talking to ghosts, she wasn’t possessed, or was chased. She was mentally ill like me and like many people with mental illness, her struggles are being painted over in a fantastical narrative that refuses to address the real issue at heart. There’s still an awful stigma with mental illness to the point people need to create conspiracy theories to address how someone like Elisa took her own life. Its shouldn’t be this big, mythological story. It’s about a woman, like many, struggled on a day to day basis, who needed help and never knew where to go or got the right treatment. Going through her blog, you can even tell she was on the wrong medication, struggled with therapy, and was a really brilliant person, snuffed out too early in her life by her own darkness. They want to tell you that Elisa’s death is something paranormal, but it’s not. It’s something so common, something that happens to those we know quite literally next door, sometimes. So, yeah, think for yourself. Amen, Elisa. -- source link
