Human Machine Reverse Motion Capture Project by Lu Yang (陸揚). Installation. 2019.Lu Yang is a multi-media artist based in Shanghai, China. Her work is deeply invested in the subcultures of anime, video games and science-fiction, which is reflected in her practice with video game-like installations in their use of holograms, virtual reality and other forms of interactive manipulation. Their works often involve creating fantasies which highlight the fragility of humankind - with the artifice technology which is prominent in their work serving as the stark point of contrast. In Human Machine Reverse Motion Capture Project, Lu Yang considers how the human body can be trained to overcome its physical limitations. Looking at traditional and contemporary dances in Indonesia, India and Japan, the project seeks to record the intricacies of the dancers’ gestures (including facial, finger- and eye-movement capture techniques) and mimics these using robotic technologies.
