The films that have come out over the years apparently celebrating major investigations and triumphs
The films that have come out over the years apparently celebrating major investigations and triumphs by the media against corruption, abuse, and a wide range of horrors; are really nothing of the sort. They don’t celebrate a living, thriving media seeking to inform, to expose injustices, etc. They do commemorate a now mostly dead media that sold out long ago. They are the gravestones of journalism. Monuments too often used to oddly justify or distract from the broken state of current journalism. And it’s not as if the media has ever been flawless. The media is now mostly nothing but a mess of capitalist propaganda, and the spectacle of the conflicting interests of neoliberals and outright fascists. The newspapers/media now openly lie, discriminate, inflame prejudice and dress up any ignorant biased opinion as “news”. They distract from, obscure, manipulate, lie, or simply ignore whatever is going on. Others twist and distort more subtly. Jeff Bezos/Amazon for example bought the Washington Post in 2013. Once famed for it’s exposes of corruption, it’s now no better than the rest. The grossly hypocritical slogan “democracy dies in the darkness” was adopted by the newspaper in 2017. It’s nothing but shallow window dressing: such slogans and imagery are usually trundled out to compensate for some counter-intuitive agenda. It’s like China slapping Mao on its banknotes since the 1990s (against his wishes; and it’s not about what you or I think of Mao either), or the Nazis falsely including “socialist” in their party title and so on. The media is now mostly owned/controlled by billionaires and hence caters to their agenda. That is all. -- source link
