vincentbriggs:I finished this 1780′s waistcoat a couple of weeks ago and kept forgetting to post it. It’s plain black silk on the outside and lined with a patchwork of silk scraps! The patchwork is machine sewn and most of the rest of the construction is by hand.I had so much trouble with the shoulders, ugh. Apparently my shoulders are quite asymmetrical because every collared waistcoat I’ve ever made has been wrinkly on the right shoulder. I fussed with this one for hours, trimming bits off and piecing bits on in an attempt to make it lie smoothly, but it’s still not quite as smooth as the left shoulder. Next time I’ll experiment with adding padding to the offending shoulder, because the muscle on that side is visibly smaller and lower than the other, so building it up with some cotton batting might help me avoid needing a different pattern piece for each side. -- source link
