Victoria Hudgins of Styled Magazine and Attribution. A mystery and my philosophy may have shifted on sources. Something very strange is going on to make rethink my entire philosophy on posting sources on Tumblr. First of all I love Styled Magazine here. But then I found that they had used Tumblr as a source for a photograph on page 115 #83 here (scroll down to the 9-7-11 issue). I looked it up in a few seconds and found out it was a photo by photographer Mark Leibowitz here and I wouldn’t be thrilled if I was him and I wasn’t credited in a published magazine - but of course I’m not him. So I emailed the editor of Styled, Victoria Hudgins, a really nice email (I mean a fawning email : “ I just looked through your beautiful online magazine: Styled. I love how I can click on projects and go to the link!”, “P.S. Again, love the content of the magazine. The photography is beautiful.”) to see if not crediting Mark Leibowitz had been an oversight and maybe glean her thoughts on the whole source issue and received this answer back from her:I understand where you are coming from with the Tumblr/Pinterest issue. I have been a part of the blogging conversation for a long time and work hard to correctly source ALL of my blog images. In the particular story in the magazine you are talking about I linked to a Tumblr acct because I wanted to showcase that particular Tumblr. I think it is a great compilation and resource and wanted to share it with my readers. I featured something they featured (on purpose!). You may disagree with this which is fine, but its my magazine and I feel strongly about sharing resources from blogs, Tumblr, Pinterest, websites and as many resources as I can share through the 100 reasons to celebrate story. Victoria Hudginshttp://asubtlerevelry.com Now the srange part. So I go back to Styled, page 114 #83 and the tumblr page http://hancpd.tumblr.com/post/5834715439 no longer works. But of course on Tumblr you can find people even if they change their address so her new address is: http://ten8.tumblr.com/post/5834715439. So why did hancpd change her address name (I mean I wouldn’t if I had just been featured in a magazine and with the praise from the above email about her blog - come on!)? Also, do I follow Design Sponge and cite my sources or go the other way? For now I think I’m going to still cite sources, but this has all made me think about how some bloggers ie publishers of online magazines feel about the whole issue. How do bloggers feel about Victoria Hudgin’s philosophy? Would they be happy about not being credited for their work or is it OK if it’s showcasing a Tumblr site? -- source link
