Portrait of Dona Isabel de Requesens, vice empress of Naples (c.1518). Raffaello Santi, known as Raphael (Italian, 1483-1520) and Giulio Pippi, known as Giulio Romano (Italian, c.1490-1546). Oil on wood transposed on canvas in the 18th century. Musée du Louvre. It is the portrait of the vice-queen of Naples which Vasari specifies that Raphael painted the face while Giulio Romano did the rest after going to Naples to fix the features of the model. The work was part of the paintings commissioned from Raphael by the Pope for François I and sent to France in 1518. The identity of the model, always designated in ancient sources as “viceroy of Naples” and confused, following a mistake by Brantôme, with Joan of Aragon was restored to the benefit of Dona Isabel de Requesens. -- source link
