asaucerfulofrock:Please take the time to read this.I really need to rant. It bothers me greatly, the hate Roger Waters has received. I mean, he’s been called a nazi before and I can’t imagine how that feels seeing as his own father was KILLED by them. He is not “anti-semetic” or “against Jews”. He is simply upset with the way that Israel treats the Palestinians. He’s just a humanitarian. Furthermore, there people who have not delved into the political side of him, but hate him because of his “ego” and his general/legal actions against the remaining members of Pink Floyd. Yes, he has made mistakes in his lifetime, yet he has recently displayed remorse regarding these mistakes. And, let’s not forget, that everyone makes mistakes. Now, let’s talk about “The Wall” and it’s central concepts. It deals with isolation, oppression, rejection, and insecurity. Roger based each one of these themes off of his own experiences. Isolation:Becoming a renowned rockstar is a form of isolation in and of itself, for one.It is extremely difficult for a renowned rockstar like Roger to form normal relationships and build up trust with people he meets, because both ends are subject to what I like to call the “pedestal illusion”. Roger has probably felt as though people tried to get close to him because of his status. Oppression:The song “Mother” is a perfect example of over-protectiveness and, in a way, oppression, that Roger was subject to in his youth.Rejection:The woman that Roger had been married to for seven years cheated on him and subsequently “broke up with him” over the phone.Insecurity:Roger’s father was killed in WWII when he was only five months old. He was raised without a father figure; someone who would most likely be greatly beneficial to his security and self-confidence. On top of all of this, he nonetheless made his musical and lyrical talents apparent. And fame is a struggle for so many. I’ve seen people look at pictures like this from “The Wall Live” tour and make comments like “Oh, look, it’s a great big ego standing center stage!” But do you want to know what I see? I see a human being with thoughts, feelings, and insecurities just like all of us. Roger spilled his heart out in these shows. In pictures like this one, I can see the misunderstood child in there who never had a father to go to for guidance. I see a human being. So, before you go saying helter-skelter about this guy, just take this stuff into consideration. Please and thank you.~asaucerfulofrockRoger Waters is a great man -- source link
