Sarah“I was very fortunate to have had a wonderful experience of breastfeeding from day one. We had a wonderful supported homebirth that I truly believe resulted in a much easier transition into motherhood. My beautiful baby girl crawled to the breast on her own within maybe 15 minutes of coming into the world and has been extremely happy to hang out there ever since. I love how how easily I can soothe my baby when she upset, help her to settle, nourish her with everything she needs while we are going about our daily life at home and out and about. I can’t imagine how I would cope without it! When it comes to breastfeeding in public - I love it, as it makes me feel empowered and that I am making a stand to normalise breastfeeding everyday. It’s the most natural thing in the world and I am saddened that we live in a world where that can be forgotten. Breastfeeding has been fundemental to the survival and evolution of the human race since the dawn of our existence, so what right do we modern day humans have to bring shame to something we depend upon? My mother breastfed me as a baby, and I have always been supported by my family and friendship circle. For me it never felt like a choice. It was just what you do and what we have always done. My daughter depends on me ensure she is nourished and thrives. It is probably seen as controversial to say it but NOTHING can match mothers milk for that! I am grateful that I was supported to make the choices that I have and that breastfeeding came naturally to me because of these choices. ALL women should be properly supported by a society that encourages breastfeeding and sees it for what it really is as the most natural thing in the world. The advice I’d give to mum’s to be would be this, breastfeeding our babies is our birthright as women and you should feel proud to know you are giving them the best start in life. No one can ever make you feel ashamed of your choices if you stand in your power as a mother and as a woman. For some it comes easily and for others it’s a long and difficult journey. But know that there ARE support networks there for you on this journey to help you.” -- source link
