gffa:THIS ENDING WAS SO FUCKING GOOD. One of the central themes of this entire game’s story was about Cere’s fight against the dark side within her, that she’d cut herself off from the Force after the terrible trauma she suffered (not just Order 66, but being captured by the Inquisitors, tortured, broken into giving up her Padawan’s location, the guilt she’s carried around because of it), that she could no longer call herself a Jedi because she couldn’t get her shit together on this and she knew it, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t still going to fight it.Every piece of advice she gives Cal is about facing that darkness within, even if you struggle with it. You get up every day and you fight it, however you can. No matter how long it takes. Your path is your own, but you walk it.That’s why Malicos (fallen Jedi that the main character has to fight on Dathomir) is a good foil for her (even though they never meet), because he did fall to the darkness, he embraced it, rather than fought it. He shit talks the Jedi (the dark side isn’t exactly the most clarifying, let’s be clear) and lies to Nightsister Merrin just to gain her magick and doesn’t actually want to build anything, he just tears things down. He doesn’t want a future for the Jedi, like Cere wants a future for the Jedi, even if she can’t call herself one. He kills Nightbrothers to lead them, while Cere wants to save people’s lives. He embraces the dark side, wants Cal to embrace it, while Cere advises him to fight it.In the end, Cere tells Trilla the same thing–she’s so sorry she failed her, but Trilla can still fight it. She can still let go of all that hate and the dark side. Cere still holds onto everything the Jedi taught her and teaches it forward, too, that the struggle is a lifelong one.“I know the darkness that is eating you up inside and every day we choose to either feed it… Or fight it.”This isn’t a platitude, this is coming from a woman who was tortured by the Empire so deeply that she gave up the location of her Padawan, something she would have rather died than do. She lives with that guilt and pain every day, that loss and horror every second, you can hear it every time she talks about Trilla or why the Empire has to be stopped, you can practically feel her shaking with it just from her voice. She absolutely understands the darkness that eats a person up from the inside out. And she still FIGHTS IT.That’s why this ending is so fucking good–Cere was there at Fortress Inquisitorius. That’s where she tapped into the dark side and slaughtered all the people in the room, except for Trilla. She recognizes Darth Vader. “It’s him,” she says, terrified and determined all at once. Run! And she flings herself at him, but he bats her away like a fly, which she had to know he would, she knows him, she’s seen him before, almost assuredly he was one of the ones who tortured her. Tortured Trilla, too. The sheer amount of terror on Trilla’s face when they sense Vader’s presence tells volumes of story. This is a man we know chose to embrace the dark, to stop fighting it and instead seek it out, of course Cere facing him makes sense. Sure, it’s partly that Vader makes for an awesome cameo, but Cere and Cal facing Anakin Skywalker, the man who chose his path, contrasting him against how they choose their path is a really fucking great choice.Because Cere keeps fighting. And then she’s so angry at what this place and this monster has done to her. Vader is the one who just killed her Padawan in front of her, when Trilla might have finally been able to let go of some of that hate, to come back to the light, just one step forward. This monster who tortured them both, who would also kill Cal and take that list and would not hesitate to do the same to every child on that list. She taps into that fury again, able to drive Vader to his knees with it, but it’s only a blink to him, he gets right back up, and says, yesssss, the dark side is strong in you. He might consider her as an Inquisitor again, he would do the same thing to her all over again.“No! You have a choice!” Cal yells, desperate to bring her back. And Cere listens. She comes back. It’s a lifelong struggle, she’s still fighting it every single day of her life, but it’s a fight that’s worth it. She chooses not to feed it, she chooses not to embrace the dark side, even if she fell into it for awhile, because even if she can’t call herself one, CERE JUNDA IS A GODDAMNED JEDI TO THE CORE.SHE WILL FIGHT THE DARKNESS WITHOUT AND WITHIN. -- source link
