scrptrx:fuckyeahasexual:Beautiful!!!“I am a supporter of equal rights and LGBTQ rights but this is also just about protecting kids. It’s a sick, twisted practice that should not be allowed,” said Erie County Legislator Pat Burke, D-Buffalo.Burke admits some members of the community have reacted negatively to the proposal, in part because of its name. The bill is called the Prevention of Emotional Neglect and Childhood Endangerment, or P.E.N.C.E. for short.“I had some, maybe a few folks who were maybe a little upset about the acronym and thought I was just trying to be cute, but no. These are serious times that we live in,” he said.Vice President-elect Mike Pence has not taken a public stance on the therapy, which sometimes involves the use of electric shock, but when he ran for Congress in 2000 he did call for federal funding for institutions that “provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.” Many LGBTQ advocates believe it signaled his support of the controversial practice.“I think people are feeling like they have to hurry up. There’s like this sense of urgency of like doing or acting on certain things that have been kind of on the backburner. Conversion therapy is one of those things,” Damian Mordecai from the Pride Center of WNY said.“I feel it’s incumbent upon us to make sure that this practice is very clearly stated to be illegal and not welcome here in Erie County,” Burke said.ERIE COUNTY HOLLA -- source link
