vincentbriggs:Oh, right, I said I would post more about this and then I did not. Here’s where I’m at right now with my late 1780′s/early 90′s embroidered waistcoat. It’s my own design, but based on those late 18th century waistcoats that have little scenes embroidered on them:https://www.pinterest.ca/vinceaddams/pictorial-embroidery/I drew the design last September, and started embroidering it less than 3 weeks ago. I’m doing an artist residency at King’s Landing right now, so am making good progress, but will go much more slowly once I return to work on the 30th. I think I’m about 40-ish hours in so far. I stretched it in a simple homemade frame, but discovered that this makes it very difficult to reach the bits in the middle, or even see them properly, so I’ve ordered a large rolling embroidery frame (A good investment that I will definitely use a lot) and will switch it over to that when it arrives. I’m working on the bottom edge for now, which is easy to reach.First 3 photos are the embroidery in the frame, 4th one is the sample I did last winter (and an unfinished sample I did more recently), 5th picture is the thread (silk thread that I dyed- mostly just because I already had a big skein of white so it was cheaper that way), and 6th picture are some final sketches (one in coloured pencil and two in gouache). The bottom edge of the design is asymmetrical, and there’s a big fallen log on the other side. -- source link
