The eagle isone of the most ancient beasts in the traditional Catalan parades; it has been used since the mid-14th century. There are lots of towns which have an eagle amongst theirtraditional figures (this one is from Igualada) and as far as I know, only walledtowns can have them. The eagle is usually depicted wearing a crown, which represents themunicipal power. Its function is to greet authorities or guests and it has verystrict performance protocols when dancing in the parades. It is also the onlyfigure allowed to dance in front of the altar of the church. -- source link
