sakiexcel:doingitright-feminism:If you’re going to follow this blog, expect to see a lot of Avatar: The Last Airbender characters, because it is full of amazing female characters. For those who haven’t seen the show, shame on you this is Katara gearing up for one of the most epic scenes she has. She’s quite literally traveled across the globe to find someone to teach her waterbending (bending the elements being ATLA’s martial arts/magic-like fighting style). When she and the rest of her friends reach their destination, they find a teacher, Pakku, who refuses to teach women and won’t even teach her friend (Aang, actually the main character) if Aang tries to help her learn. Is Katara going to accept that?Shit no she isn’t.Katara challenges Pakku, a waterbending master, to a fight that she knows she can’t win. At first, it looks like Pakku’s not even going to acknowledge the challenge, as he just walks away without even looking at her. Is Katara going to back down?Shit no she isn’t.And so begins the epic fight scene. She takes some hits, but is that going to stop her?NEVER.She keeps up the fight……and is such an utter badass……that even douchebag Pakku takes notice.Still, she’s a beginner against a master, so it was inevitable that she’d lose.(Note: This is not Katara giving up. This is Katara just before being locked in an ice-cage she can’t get out of, although she still does her damndest to keep fighting.)Katara is one of the best female characters I’ve come across in years. She’s tough as nails, kind and motherly, and so stubborn that it’s both a flaw and a strength. She’s also bossy, self-righteous, and able to hold a grudge until someone pries it from her cold, dead fingers, and she has a temper that once made Aang do this:If anyone tries to tell you that she’s a Mary Sue, tell them to go fuck themselves. Katara is fucking amazing. This is from the tumblr account that I made and then quickly realized I had neither the time nor the attention span to maintain. But I wanted to have evidence of the one worthwhile post that I made on that account. -- source link
