Nice view from the nest box. Meet Audrey Henburn, one of our Red Star pullets (young hen) who started laying recently.Red Stars aka Sex-links are hybrids, developed in the 50s, they’re the result of crossing one breed with another (eg: Rhode Island Red x White Rock, RIR x RIW, RIR x Delaware, etc.) for the purpose of egg-laying. Depending on the breeds used to produce them, female chicks are usually light brown, developing different shades of buff or brown, with pretty white flecking, especially around their backside. They are extremely gentle hens, very friendly who allow themselves to be petted. Always active and curious, love to explore their surroundings, great foragers who love being able to free-range to eat their daily bugs and grass. They’re one of the most prolific layers around, starting at 17-19weeks. Very hardy, they keep laying in all climates - both heat and cold tolerant. Their eggs are light brown and large. They are generally very healthy birds that don’t succumb easily to illness or infection. #fresheggsdaily #bloodandsoil -- source link
