Made some sweet jam this morning, a family tradition kept by the women (homesteaders) in my family, now myself, and one day my daughter(s). This time I made fig jam, after picking 3Kg of figs from our trees yesterday afternoon (photo 2), but other recipes –pear, tomato & blackberry jam– will follow in the next weeks. Feeling very grateful for our trees and their bountiful figs this year, thanks to the bird netting (photo 1) that we put over them allowing us to pick figs for ourselves as well as our feathered friends. This is one of my favorite activities to do in the summer, I am always looking forward to all this bounty. It is the ideal time to can & preserve the food we grew ourselves, that will later sustain us, our family and community, during winter. If you can’t grow your own food, buy it directly from farmers, try to ALWAYS cook from scratch and make your Family/Ancestors proud by keeping these (and other) traditions alive.#homemade #preserving #selfsufficiency #figjam -- source link
