They’re often held without charge because they’re targeted for their ethnic or religious status that doesn’t align with state policies. These prisoners frequently go without sunlight or socialization for weeks at a time. Women in the camps are frequently forcibly sterilized - often by doctors who don’t speak the same dialect as them.
