Where the Suwannee River EndsThe Suwannee River can be found in the US states of Georgia and Florida. It begins in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia and drains into the Gulf of Mexico. The river is classified as a blackwater river and is often referred to as the Suwannee Blackwater River. This type of river is one that flows fairly slow through wetlands or thick vegetation. It is due to this that certain tannic acids seep into the water the thus giving the river its stained hue. The Suwannee River is quite a spectacle in that its colour is not lost along its 400km route which is not common for blackwater rivers. It is this distinct colour of the river mixing with that of the ocean that makes the image, taken by the Operational Land Imager (Landsat 8), a treat for the eyes. The name “Suwannee” comes from the Native American word for “black muddy water.”-♞Ren TImage Credit:https://go.nasa.gov/2C48mB8NASA Earth Observatory, Dr. Alice AlonsoReferences/Sources:https://bit.ly/2G9qsphhttps://bit.ly/2Qn80OC -- source link
