verbivore8642:I was making a gifset this weekend, and was struck by this little-noticed moment from the finale. Fitz is explaining his plan with the pressurized air canister to Simmons (before revealing that there’s only one breath to be taken). The look on her face is so filled with unwavering trust - “This is what we’re going to do. Fitz is going to get us out of this.” She’s nervous, but is listening with rapt attention because he’s figured out how to save them both, and she’s nodding along to tell him that she understands and is going to do exactly as he says. There’s even a little sliver of hope, so believing she is of him. It says a lot about their relationship that she just trusted him to figure out this part of their escape (presumably while she was working with the explosives) without her approval or input, considering what’s at stake.A few moments later, when she realizes that he hasn’t factored in his own survival, her entire face just crumbles. Simmons cannot comprehend how Fitz has created such a flawed plan - because, for her, the only option is for both of them to survive. The fact that he would consider his own death an option simply doesn’t compute for her; Fitz is never this wrong. -- source link
