tillthenexttimedoctor:tillthenexttimedoctor:“And who, I wonder, is Quill when she’s free?” - “I am war itself.”Is there a difference between the first and the last? The Quill goddess is alone. She has no name. If she had one, it was lost in the past. Thousand of years, ago. Or yesterday. “No one knows that name.”When Quill starts her journey, bearing only the name of her species, she is told that it will end in either her death or her freedom. But the meaning of alive becomes a different one when one travels through heaven and hell. The thing inside of her skull is moving, her heart is truly beating, but the places she is visiting aren’t real. Then what, one wonders, is she, sacrificing a lifetime in a battle with a soul. She, who walks through the halls of the frozen, her hand embracing one of made of stone. Her own chains are anchored in her head, holding her in place, demanding to take all she is. She, who walks through the first of all nests. Who fights a goddess and looks her in the eye. (All Quill sisters try to kill each other in the nest.) There are words which will never be heard. (”I could have been the first Quill ever…”, the rest of the sentence trailing off into silence.)Quill thinks she has not been taught to have faith, but she is wrong. She knows the depth of her suffering, the depth of the suffering of her name. And she has learnt to believe in herself. A trust, broken and caged, but she is putting the pieces back together. When her people died and died again, she fought. When she was defeated, she rose again from the underworld, to claim her domain. “War itself.”Where do myths come from? What thought sparked another, set alight, voices coming together to form a belief? Maybe it was hands bursting from the Cabinet. Like claws bursting from the nest. She has been trapped. She has grieved. The Quill have, the Quill has, suffered enough. This is where the Qill goddess is about to be born. And now, she is free. -- source link
