lgbt-history-archive:Happy Canada Day! On July 1, 1867, Canada’s Constitution Act officially joined three provinces–Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Canada province (which would become Ontario and Quebec)–into a single country, Canada, within the British Empire. Until Canada completed its independence from Great Britain in 1982, the July 1 holiday was known officially as Dominion Day. With the passage of the Canada Act in 1982, Dominion Day was renamed Canada Day.
