chinatownlife:chinatownlife:chinatownlife:Hey everyone, I hope everyone is having a happy New Year so far. A few minutes ago I had left my apartment in the Lower East Side and I was making a phone call concerning an emergency dealing with a close friend of mine. Regardless of me looking frantic, concerned, and crying, I was sexually harassed on the street. There was a truck making deliveries to a bodega nearby. One man navigating the truck into a parking position, and the other walking on the street and guiding him. The man walking on the street decided to walk very close to me and leer at me, saying “Damn, beautiful!” He didn’t care that I look freaked out by him or that I was crying and on the phone. I asked him why he said that and then he said that he was “talking to the truck.” I had no idea trucks could talk. He was not referring to the driver, since the window was closed. I called for my partner, who is a cis male to walk me back to my apartment. He asked the man why he would do that to me, and then deny it. He asked him to apologize and he got very upset and yelled and said he refused to apologize and told me to get over it. At this point, the driver came out and was very confrontational and threatening. He was yelling and telling us to leave them alone and that I should get used to it and that “that’s how it is in New York.” I told him I grew up here, so trust me, I know. He then denied that it was sexual harassment and I should just be on my way.At one point, the driving franticly ran back to the driver seat and acted like he was going to grab a gun or a weapon and taunted “oh yeah, what you gonna do?” This was extremely immature and unnecessary information. He came back empty handed but they repeatedly shouted at us and stood close to us in an intimidating manner. They were even threatening to call the police on us for asking for an apology? I didn’t even care for an apology at this point, I just wanted to know why it is deemed suitable to leer at and sexually harass a young lady on the street who is clearly distraught and crying and occupied on the phone? It doesn’t make sense to me.Before we left, I decided to take pictures of the truck’s decal’s and license plate but as I was doing that, the driver climbed back into the truck and he started to take pictures of me. Yuck! The creepy guy has pictures of my face and my body now. I don’t have their names since they were screaming the whole time and they refused to tell us who they worked for. The driver was a tall white male and the man who sexually harassed me was Latino/Hispanic and shorter. If you can, please call the company and let them know it is not okay for their workers to sexually harass, and threaten women on the street. The area I live in is already densely populate and sexual harassment is a daily ordeal for me, women, and girls in the area. It is not safe here, and I don’t think we should have people who are as threatening as these people working in a neighborhood. This is really unprofessional and aggressive behavior. This company can clearly benefit from hiring better service men. Please call them with your comments on their behavior. Thank you and happy New Year. Please boost! And please don’t just reblog, *****please actually call the company, or engage in conversations with friends and people in your networks about how sexual violence happens every day to women and girls. I hate confiding in ANYONE when something dangerous happens to me because no one takes it seriously and even if they do, nothing comes out of it and they are unwilling to help. -- source link
