jmgonet: Today I realised that I have over 200 followers. Although I suspect some being bots, and others trying to sell something, most are amazing artists. 200 is such a big number, I can’t deny I feel proud. I would like to thank you all for liking, reblogging and encouraging the little artist in myself, allowing me to intrude your computers and iPads every time I publish one of my drawings. Also, just as important, I would like to thank you for publishing your own rich and inspiring art. I can’t name you individually without incurring in the risk of being meaningless or, worse, forgetting someone. Instead, I want to share this little story of my two first followers in tumblr. My first follower was @wonsangeun: he (or she) is my first liker, and my first follower. I didn’t know even that there were likes in tumblr, until I received his. And then, he started following me. And he is a real professional artist! It felt so good! It was like starting a new life. Back then I was using Procreate. This is a very serious application. Using it with limited skills such as mine was intimidating and frustrating. My drawings were ugly, stiff and joyless, and I wasn’t progressing. Maybe it gives is too much freedom, maybe zooming or using layers are bad habits, maybe I was simply out of inspiration. Who knows? Certainly not me. Anyway, one day, while I was wandering aimlessly through tumblr, deviantart and youtube instructables, I stumbled upon this post by @bethanycknowles. Wow! It is striking, powerful and uninhibited. It makes such good use of simple colours. It speaks. It is a statement. It shows the path to where you draw just because you want. And I wanted to go there. So I tried paper 53 for the first time, and I did this childish little duck, with the sad fish. As you can imagine, it didn’t attract much attention or gain much likers, but it was fun and liberating. And it was the first of a very long series of drawings I really did enjoy. Shortly after @bethanycknowles became my second follower. Boy, wasn’t I happy that day. To all of you, who, like @wonsangeun and @bethanycknowles, encourage and inspire me every day, thank you very much. I hadn’t looked at Tumblr in a week, and then I found this lovely mention last night. Thanks, Jmgonet. -- source link
