Ghaliyya Al-Wahabiyya - AmiraGhaliyya Al-Wahabiyya (d.1818) was a Hanbali from Tarba near Ta'if. She’s remembered for leading a military resistance to defend Mecca against a foreign invasion at the beginning of the 19th century. She was apparently the widow of a rich man and spent her money to support the clans in their fight. Ghaliyya held the title of “Amira”, a variation of the term “Amir” that designated the leader of the armies. This term is specifically linked with military command. There is an occurrence of a woman bearing a similar military title with the Zaidi Yemeni chieftain Sharifa Fatima who, during the mid-15th century, took Sanaa by the force of arms.Ghaliyya was such a skilled commander that rumors spread among her enemies that she could render her forces invisible. Historians remember her military bravery and successes in defending the land: “Never had the resistance of the Arab tribes from the vicinity of Mecca been so strong as was that of the Arabs of Tarba … . They had at their head a woman who bore the name of Ghaliyya”.Bibliography:Mernissi Fatima, The forgotten queens of Islam“The absence of the role of Saudi women in establishing the Saudi state in our curricula!”غالية البقمية".. مناضلة سعودية “أرعبت” الأتراك -- source link
