stumpomatic-blog: Before the release of Believers Never Die (the greatest hits cd) Fall Out Boy engaged in some viral marketing. This was almost five years ago so my memory is fuzzy but I recall a tweet with a link to a website where you could enter your name and address. If memory servers, the website had a warning telling you NOT to do it. I was driving when I got the tweet so I pulled over immediately and put my info in. A few weeks later, I got a delivery from UPS. It was a padded envelope (that I still have) with a return address in Colorado Springs under the name Salaveri the Magnificent. I opened it to find the above postcard enclosed. In case you can’t make it out, the front is a photo of a soldier about to be run over by a tank with another soldier standing defiantly in front of it, holding one arm up to halt its path. The title, as printed on the back, is “I said STOP and I mean it!” The handwritten message is dated 8/16/2010, one year into the future, and reads: Pete, Sorry it’s taken a bit to write you back. I’ve been busy tweaking ideas and collecting sounds. Miss everything too. Remember the time we spent all day in the back lounge talking about how fast time flies? - Patrick There were other postcards sent out written to and from the other band members, and more than one copy of each was sent. I don’t know how many postcards were mailed in total, but it seemed fairly limited; not everyone who out their address in received one (and I know at an earlier point, some people received limited edition prints). Various words were bolded and highlighted without explanation. Then when BND was released, this link was on the back of the cd case. If I recall correctly, those are the names of everyone who signed up. I don’t know if it means anything, but my name ended up being part of Patrick, and the postcard I received was addressed from him. -- source link
