If you visit the museum this summer, you may notice a conspicuous absence in the 5th Floor American Galleries. Albert Bierstadt’s, A Storm in the Rocky Mountains, Mt. Rosalie (1866), will be coming off the wall for a conservation treatment that will be carried out in the 5th Floor Rotunda gallery starting on June 7, 2017 and continuing through July 15, 2017. During this time conservators will be working on the painting in the public view from 2–5pm daily. The first week of the project will be spent examining the painting and thoroughly documenting the condition. Over the next month, paintings conservators will carry out a minor treatment to remove layers of dust and grime that have accumulated on the surface over time. Check back for more updates on the project and we hope you’ll come visit us in the galleries!Posted by Lauren BradleyGIF by Brooke Baldeschwiler -- source link
