starstruckmyths:hey-rissyroo:leashlessconfusion:I can’t stop thinking about these lines in terms of Bucky’s actual values/intent vs. how people perceive him. To Sharon (and probably to most outsiders), his allegiance to Steve automatically translates into a belief in patriotism and Captain America™. She even turns the idea of his relationship with Steve into a joke, which illustrates a fundamental misunderstanding because the close bond they shared truly was the basis for his loyalty. To Bucky it was never about ‘stars and stripes’- it was about the man wearing them.WTF?? Didn’t these writers watch ANY of the previous films w Bucky and Steve????This is also exactly why I’ve been frowning at Bucky’s near obsession with the shield. Not just wanting it back but what he perceives it as. He says it’s everything Steve stood for, which is strange considering Bucky knew Steve was more than the shield and dropped it for others twice. Once because he wasn’t going to fight Bucky in the helicarier, and once to show Tony the shield and title weren’t worth more to him than his friends. Maybe it’s because Bucky wants to protect Steve and all that Steve is, and he’s afraid that John Walker will ruin Steve’s legacy and take away what Steve worked so hard for. I think he wanted to “repay” Steve for saving him over and over in the last years (TWS and Civil War) putting everything on the line for him, so Bucky wants to give that back. I hope that Bucky’s obsession with the shield and acting like it’s Steve himself either stops or will be explained, because right now it’s OOC with what we’ve seen. Bucky never cared about the suit or the shield, he cared about the man underneath. To me, it reads more of a fear of Steve’s legacy being tarnished— so, not the shield, but what it represents. Which is something that both Sam and Bucky are struggling with in their different ways. -- source link
