I do it library-style. I’m thinking of stacking some of my fantasy books, since most of them are series, but with the unread ones on top. The idea is that as I finish each book, I put it at the bottom of the stack until they’re in series order. No idea if that’ll actually save me space or not.Nonfiction standard dewey decimal, fiction by genre and then alphabetically by author surname within genreIn sections by genre, then by height/size. I organize them in groupings based on all sorts of criteria. I’ve got my Arthurian section (there are four shelves dedicated solely to arthurian books at the moment), I’ve got my general non-arthurian medieval books, my shakespeare, my tolkien, my star trek, my comics, my art books… Outside of things that have their own grouping, I just sort broadly by fiction versus nonfiction, then my fiction gets sorted by authour and my nonfiction by subject—and then all that organization goes to hell becuase I have to stack things by size to make all my books fit. (And they still don’t fit. I have stacks of books everywhere). -- source link
