This might be a very famous story circling around the internet right now, but take time to read:Before dying, an elderly person told his child, “This is your grandfather’s watch and is a couple of hundred years old. But before I give it to you, please go to the watch shop and see how much they will offer you.”The child went, and then came back, and said that the watchmaker offered 6 dollars because it’s old. The old person said, “Go to the coffee shop.”He went and then came back, and said, “They offered 3 dollars.”The old man said, “Go to the museum and show that watch.”He went then came back, and said to his father, “They offered me a million dollars.”The father said, “I wanted to let you know that the right place values you in the right way.”This story just shows that there are really other people who will not see our value but there are also people who will. This is just like us, we are all unpleasant and we don’t have anything to offer. We are old and rusty spiritually and we are evil by nature. However, God sees us as a precious jewel. Just like the owner of the museum saw the value of the old watch, God saw also our value despite all the evil things we did. This story is just almost the same as the parable Jesus taught His disciples about the parable of the hidden treasure and the pearl (Matthew 13: 44-46) when there was a merchant who saw a pearl with a value and sold everything He owned to buy that pearl. Similarly, the parable of Jesus and the story about the old watch are both teaching us lessons about our worth. God wants to remind us that our value is not found on our social media followers or likes; not on someone’s life and neither on our achievements but on Him. Even though we are very sinful and evil, God sees our value and loves us so much that He is willing to pay so much for us. When we assess ourselves, we can really agree that there is nothing we have that God will want us but God is loving and full of second-chances God. Just like the merchant, He sees our value amidst our sinful nature. Because of this, God was so willing to pay the price. He sent His Son and made Him as our atoning sacrifice. We are bought at a price and that we can never be more grateful. God is so willing to do everything for us to the point of shedding His blood on the cross just to buy us. He doesn’t want us to rot in hell so He saved us from our sins. Just like how the museum owner sees the value of the watch and the merchant saw the value of that pearl, Jesus too saw our value and sold everything to have us. He offered His life and defeated death so we can have eternal life through Him. So next time, when people try to put you down and tell you that you don’t worth anything, always be reminded that the Treasure of heaven was crucified for you. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise because you were bought at a price. Jesus suffered and died to prove that you are worth it, so claim that promise. We are all sinful at birth but God chose to love us and see our worth to the point of dying on the cross for us, so don’t let anyone confuse you of your value for you are worth it because God made you worth it! Your value has already been set to the highest standards when Jesus shed His blood for you. YOU WERE BOUGHT AT A HIGH PRICE!For more daily reflection, verse and encouragement, you may follow us.
