There is nothing more real than the spiritual battle that has been always happening everyday. It has always been God shielding us from the attacks of the evil one as He tasks His angels to protect us. Now, our verse today is a very popular verse for all Christians, especially those who are having a hard time in their faith and have been put into a situation where they are mentally and spiritually challenged. God wants to remind us today about the promise He has given to us that if we put His full armor, we will be able to stand against the evil one. We have to understand that God does not just want us to pick what part of the armor we should just put on, but God wants us to put on the full armor. Many have claimed that the real battle is something you can see and can really affect you, like World War I or World War II where countries have fought against each other, many lives were wasted and nature has been disputed. However, we must remember that as real as those battles, spiritual battles are also very real and are always happening. In fact, when we remember Jesus telling Peter that Satan wants to sift him like wheat, it just shows that the devil is really waiting for his timing to snatch us away from God. After all, he only came to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10) us. Thus, the spiritual battle is very much real and that is happening everyday. So, some would ask, if you became a Christian, will that spiritual battle end? Absolutely no! As long as we are in this world, we will have to fight against that. Especially if we are a Christian because by nature before, we are sinful, and now we are given a new self and that old self will always try to take over. Thus, it is a battle within us, the spiritual battle in which we fight to stand our ground in Christ Jesus. Therefore, our verse today reminds us to stand firm into our ground and the only way to do that is to take the full armor of God which also encompasses the qualities of Christ. Thus, we must put Christ in us— abiding in Him, remaining in Him, walking with Him, imitating Him, and living Him as He also remains in us. If we do this, when the day of evil comes, we will be able to stand our ground and hold on to the faith. However, what does the day of evil mean? It does not mean the end of the world but it means all the time that the devil will try to confuse and tempt us to go back to our old self. So, when that day comes, we will be able to say no to the devil and stand our ground as Christians who are already saved and set apart for the purpose of God. So, we must put on the full armor of God and seasoned ourselves with His Word everyday so that we will fight against the evil one by being protected with God’s armor. Let us remain inside His wings as He shields us from the schemes of the devil. Let us remember to put on Christ, to live like Him and to abide in Him always for our ultimate weapon against the devil is Him. Also, God has given us the power to trample snakes and scorpions which means that we will be able to resist the devil through the name of Jesus Christ and by His power we are also made strong. May the good God bless us with power to resist the devil and bless us with His protection always through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
