Roman Calendar - 4 June, the day of Hercules Magnus Custos After the defeat at Trebia 218 BCE - first major battle against Hannibal - Romans consulted Sibylline books. The advice was that they should build a temple to “Hercules the Great Guardian”. The temple was erected on Campus Martius and June 4 became a feast day of the hero. Yearly festival took place near Porticus Minucia.The statue above was found from Forum Boarium where Hercules had an another shrine (circular temple of Hercules Victor)..
