Numbers A-7760, A-7761, A-7762 were tattooed onto three sisters (Rivka, Leah, and Esther) at Auschwitz on June 28, 1944.This photo was taken by the daughter of Rivka (shown on the far right) in 1992.There is a common misconception that all prisoners of the Holocaust were given tattoos, however it was only those imprisoned in Auschwitz after 1941 that were branded in this particular way. The tattoos were initially placed on the left breast of the prisoner, however, this was later changed to the inner forearm.Eva Umlauf was a Jewish girl who arrived in Auschwitz at the age of two in 1944. Despite her young age, she was tattooed with the number: A26959. The pain of getting the tattoo was so painful that she passed out. Her mother was given a number that was a digit lower. It is believed that she was the youngest survivor to have been tattooed by the Nazis.History Cool Kids -- source link
