qsy-complains-a-lot:hunlarpfag:its-spelled-maille:tom-brocar:steellegacy:Dear friends, do you like Gothic style as well as we do?Please leave your comments:What medieval style do you prefer?- -Gothic cuirass, XV c.Made by our Creative Workshop “Steel Legacy” in 2006.#SteelLegacyWhat is the “hook” for? Does anybody know?Certainly! That “hook” is known as an Arrêt de Cuirasse, if you want to sound fancy, or a lance rest if you want to be practical. They we’re designed in the very late 14th-very early 15th century, and allow a lance to be rested on them.(this image is the best visual example I can find)A ring around the lance’s shaft would prevent it from sliding past that point, greatly increasing the amount of force a lance charge could bring to bear. -mod ArmetSlightly better picture on how it worksAlso it’s worth noting that on later armours some of the lance rests could be folded up or entirely removable As seen in the first pictures, where you can easily spot the hinge. -- source link
