Campos de tierras altas (¿milpas?), cerca de San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, 1990. It was not clear whether these were permanent fields or temporary fields of the slash and burn variety. Increasing population density and the availability of chemical fertilizers have converted some areas to permanent field agriculture in the Mayan highland areas of Chiapas and have resulted in much more of the territory being used for crops each year. -- source link
