kate-wisehart:prototypical-nonconformist:socialanxietytruthsandhelp:Just trying to get the message out there, I hope this helps someone NOTE TO FRIENDSOne thing I learned when I was in therapy is that if someone calls the mental health clinic’s help desk in the midst of a panic attack the first thing they will do is ask them to describe the physical sensations. Making them focus on the actual physical sensations rather than the thing that was causing the panic attack can often pull them part of the way out of the panic attack (not always, depends on the person). if you get panic attacks and are able to remember this tidbit in the middle of it, feel free to give it a go. It helps me immensely, personally. It’s also really important to listen to the person having the panic attack or anxiety attack. If they say leave me alone or give me some space DO IT. But still listen each time; next time they could want someone close by or even touching an then you should DO THAT. At least that’s my experience. I can’t tell you in advance what I’m going to need from a person trying to help me so you have to listen to the person in the moment, no matter what you’ve done before or what you think is best. Especially if the person having the attack has experience with them. -- source link
