philipdegoya:This is my dear friend Anomie Fatale. Since I first became friends with her she has brought optimism back in to my life with our shared love of music. We write songs together and try to play live whenever her health permits it. Anomie has Elhers Danlos Syndrome (EDS). It is a genetic connective tissue disorder where the body basically can’t hold itself together due to the lack of an important protein called collagen. It varies amongst people, but it can be life threatening without proper treatment or corrective surgeries. Along with this she has Arnold-Chiari malformation, which is where the cerebellum, the base of her brain has collapsed. She grew up able bodied until she was twenty when the symptoms hit her hard. She is semi-quadriplegic, so she walk a little but can’t bend her legs to go up stairs and can’t move her neck to turn her head. Despite this she has more perseverance than anyone I’ve ever seen. Anomie is an extraordinary human being full of warmth and kindness. Not only is she an incredible singer and songwriter, but an admirable advocate for disability rights and LGBT rights. She’s performed at Disability Pride events and is a beacon of hope for her friends in the disabled community. Me and her have successfully performed 3 charity shows for Philly Fringe Arts to raise money for those with EDS.I’m starting this campaign because I worry for her financial situation and health in the near future. With the recent election of Donald Trump as president I fear the assistance she gets from the federal and state government will vanish, and she’s already having financial problems as it is. She may soon have to leave her current living space which she loves for its wheelchair accessibility and being in a safe neighborhood in South Philadelphia. With all she’s been through, being financially cut off from her parents, being homeless at one point, and having to live in the projects of North Philadelphia, she’s finally found a place of safety and comfort, as well as community in the South Philly music scene. The money raised in this campaign will help her pay the rent for her apartment, utilities, and food (noms). Other funds will go to whichever disability or LGBT support organization of her choosing*. She has brought happiness to my life and has been there for me in my darkest moments. Like a true friend she was able to visit me after I checked myself into a mental hospital for depression. Now, I want to help HER! She’s a beacon of hope with her music and constant fighting for survival and human rights. Helping her will help those she’s trying to help. She might not have long to live and it would be a miserable world if such a loving person were to die without her voice being heard. This is her website: anomiefatale.com where you can listen to music she’s recorded over the years. Please help Anomie!
