Description: Calum Hood, the schools golden boy. He’s the reason that the varsity team is undefeated for four years. He’s got perfect grades, a scholarship to one of the best colleges in the country. But no one knows his secret, that his passion for music is bigger than his passion for soccer. And what happens when Ember Williams finds out that secret? Read to find out! Chapter 8 9.Calum’s POVThe next day goes by quicker than I’d like. I’ll admit that I’m nervous to have dinner with Ember’s family, especially her father, because I’ve never met the guy. Who knows if he’s one of those overprotective dads who thinks no one is good enough for their daughter. Maybe he’s just completely chill and fine with his daughter dating, but I don’t think I’ll be that lucky.I walk down the empty hallway towards Embers locker, where she stands with her nose deep in a book. I can’t help but let a grin sweep across my lips as I watch her eyebrows scrunch together in concentration. I just want to stand there and watch her adorable face react to the words on the pages she is reading, but we have to go pick up some things from the store for her mom, after picking up Lucy from ballet practice.“Ember,” I call out softly as I approach her.She doesn’t notice me at all, too engrossed within her book.“Ember,” I say louder, standing right in front of her.Still, no reply.I smile and take the book from her hands, and her head instantly snaps up to me. Her eyes widen and a blush creeps up her neck.“Oh, sorry,” She bows her head in embarrassment, causing my grin to widen.I place her bookmark in the page I carefully placed my finger on, and handed it back to her.“You’re fine. I just hope you don’t read and walk at the same time, cause that could end in a catastrophe,” I tease and she rolls her eyes, whacking my arm lightly“Oh shut up!” She mutters grabbing her bag from the ground.I walk closer to her, decreasing the space between us, “Make me.” I whisper, my voice lower than usual. She bites her lip staring at me, then tilts her head up, closing the space between us completely. Her lips move softly against mine, as they always do. Her inexperience leaves her letting me take control, and I don’t mind at all. I back her into the lockers, placing my hands on her waist. Her hands travel up to my hair, tugging it gently. I groan against her lips, and pull away, panting.“Don’t… do that to me,” I breath out closing my eyes.“Sorry,” she mumbles, smiling up at me.“No you’re not,” I grin and peck her lips once more before intertwining our fingers and starting to walk to the parking lot.Once we get to my car, I open the door for her, and run around to the driver’s seat.“I’ll just pick you both up in the morning again,” I decide and turn on the car, leaving the parking lot.“Okay,” She says and turns on the radio.I smile at her choice of station, grinning when I hear Good Charlotte come on. I grab her hand, and ask for directions to where Lucy’s ballet class is at. Once we get there, I immediately spot Lucy in her bright pink tutu standing outside talking to a few other girls.Ember rolls down her window, and yells out Lucy’s name. Her head snaps up and she recognizes the car, and runs towards us after telling her friends goodbye. She scrambles into the car, with a grin on her face.“Prince Charming!”I grin and laugh lightly, “Kitten!”She giggles, and once she has her seatbelt on, I head to the grocery store, “How was practice?” Ember asks, turning around to look at her little sister.“Great! We started learning the dance from Swan Lake!” she squeals excitedly.“That’s awesome! You’ll have to show us sometime,” Ember suggests and I agree with her.“Alright…. Where are we going?” she asks, her voice confused.“Mom needed a few things from the store. She’s making her famous Chicken Parmesan for our special guest,” she wiggles her eyebrows and squeezes my hand.I simply roll my eyes, but smile at her. We arrive at the store, and I turn off the car, immediately getting out to run over and open the two girls’ doors. Ember smiles and thanks me, and Lucy gives me a high five. I smile at her adorable ways, and her bright pink unitard and tutu that bounces around as she walks. My hand finds Embers once again as we head into the store. We find everything, making sure to get everything on the list, and I sneak a bouquet of flowers in the cart while no one’s looking. I hide the flowers but make sure they don’t get squished. Once we get everything I tell Ember to take Lucy to the rides at the front of the store with a few quarters. Ember gives me a suspicious look, but takes her. I pay for all of the groceries (which aren’t that many) and the flowers, and go to find Ember and Lucy. Once I get to them, Ember gives me a disapproving, and guilty frown.“You shouldn’t have paid for everything, I feel bad.”“No it’s fine, really,” I smile at her and wheel the cart out of the store.“You sure?” she bites on her lip, which drives me insane.“Positive,” I state and give her a quick kiss.“Ew!” Lucy squeals and covers her eyes.I laugh, and Ember does too. We get to the car and I open the trunk, moving my guitar to the back, making more room for the groceries. Ember questions me about my guitar, but I just shrug her off, not wanting her to get any hints of what I’m planning. I quickly grab the bag with the flowers in it, as well as a few more to make it look inconspicuous. I place the flowers behind my guitar so no one can see them. I continue unloading the groceries with Ember, and Lucy hangs onto the handle of the cart.Once we load all of the groceries into the trunk, I close it, and Lucy volunteers to take the cart and put it away. I quickly open Embers door for her, and turn my focus onto Lucy, making sure nothing happens to her. She puts the cart away and skips back to the car, hopping into the door I hold open for her.I get in and start up the car, driving to Embers house, starting to get nervous. I tap my fingers on the steering wheel, trying to calm my nerves. Somehow Ember senses that I’m nervous, and grabs my hand, squeezing it lightly. I look over to see her smiling softly at me, I return her smile, the majority of my nervousness vanishing. After a few minutes I pull into their driveway, and turn off the car. I wait a few seconds before running over to open the girls’ doors. I open the trunk and start grabbing groceries. Between the three of us we grab all of the bags in one trip. The front door opens as we start walking towards it, revealing Mrs. Williams.“Oh good! Just bring them right into the kitchen,” she steps to the side allowing us to walk into the door.I follow Ember and Lucy through the hallway I was just in yesterday, and into their kitchen. Both of the girls place their bags on a large table, so I copy their movements. I look around their house and instantly feel at home. Everything is well kept, and I know that Ember’s mom works hard to keep it that way.“Thank you so much for doing this Calum,” Mrs. Williams walks over to me and pats me on the arm, giving me a warm smile.“Oh it was no big deal, Mrs. Williams,” I smile.“Oh please, call me Kathy.”“Alright, Kathy,” I nod and look over to Ember who is rolling her eyes. “I left something in the car, I’ll be right back.”I jog out of the house and grab the flowers out of the grocery bag, and my guitar. I travel back to the kitchen where Lucy is sitting at the table doing homework. Kathy and Ember are putting the groceries away talking. I set my guitar against the wall, and Ember glances up at me and her eyes widen.“Calum!” she shakes her head. Kathy looks up and grins once she see’s the flowers.“These are for you,” I hold out to Ember’s mother, and she gasps.“Oh Calum you didn’t have to, this is so sweet of you,” She takes the flowers and smells them sighing happily.“Seriously, you didn’t have to,” Ember shakes her head looking at me in disbelief.I just shrug, and shove my hands in my pockets.“Oh, let me find a vase for this, Calum you’re such a sweet boy! I understand why Ember has been crushing on you for all this time now.”Embers cheeks turn red, and she grabs my arm, “Okay yeah we’re going up to my room,” She pulls me out of the kitchen and I barely get a hold on my guitar before she starts dragging me up a flight of stairs. We turn down a hallway and she opens a door, pulling me inside of it.“Your door stays open Ember!” Her mom’s voice calls from the kitchen.“Okay mom!” she groans and places her head on the wall.I hold in a laugh and start to look throughout her room. A good sized bed on in the middle of the room, a dresser, it’s top completely crowded with random things. She has a desk, on it sits an electric keyboard, papers are scattered on top of it, some I recognize as sheet music, others look like assignments from school. She has a huge bookshelf overflowing with all sorts of books. Other than the little clutter on the furniture in her room, it’s pretty clean. She has an organized closet, and from what I can see her bathroom looks tidy.“She is so embarrassing,” Ember mumbles, her head still against the door.I smile and walk to her, turning her around gently, “It’s fine. If it makes anything better my mom was just as embarrassing.”She thinks for a minute and smiles back at me, a faint blush still on her cheeks.“Sorry that it’s such a mess in here. I’m not too much of an organizer,” She walks over and starts gathering all of the papers on her keyboard. I grab her hands, stopping her from cleaning them up.“Don’t worry about it. My mom made me glean mine before you go there, if she didn’t we would have been working in a pig sty.”She giggles at that and releases the papers from her hand, and lets them scatter on her piano. My hands let go of hers, grabbing a paper that caught my eye. Thoughtful words are on the paper, lyrics written beautifully, the words flowing together like a river. I’m amazed at the paper, and I see other ones, some with lyrics like these, some with sad, and painful lyrics on them. Along with the lyrics are what looks like piano chords, to go with the songs. I hold up the papers and look at Ember who’s chewing on her lip.“Did you write all of these?” I ask, recognizing her handwriting. She just nods, still nervously biting on her lip. I look at her in disbelief.“That’s amazing! These lyrics, there so…” I try to find the right word, “intense, poetic, emotional, beautiful.” I listHer eyes widen, and a small smile forms on her lips, “You really think so?”“Yes! Play me this one,” I pick the one that caught my eye from the start. She hesitates for a moment, looking at me nervously. I give her an encouraging smile, and she starts to clear off the piano. She places all of the random papers on the ground next to the desk, and starts to play.As she sings and moves her fingers carefully, her eyes close. As she sings her face scrunches together, the words leave her lips in the form of her beautiful voice, the passion she has when she sings, I find myself falling more and more in love with her. And I want her to know.As she finishes the song, my heart beats rapidly, just at the thought of telling her what I’ve wanted to tell her since the day I saw her first. Everything starts to move in slow motion. Her hands leaving the piano, her eyes fluttering open, her turning to me. I reach out for her hands again, hoping that her touch will calm me, but it does the completely opposite.“What did you think?” she whispers, having no idea what inner battle is going on inside of me.“I think…. I love you,” the words leave my lips and there’s no taking them back. Her eyes widen, and she steps back from me, clearly shocked. She removes her hands from me, and I start to freak out, thinking that she’s going to run away from me, or tell me to leave. She places her hands on my neck, pulls me down to her, and places her lips on mine.I’m beyond shocked at first, it takes me a moment to start to kiss her back. I place my hands on her hips pulling her as close to me as possible. I’m out of breath but I don’t care, the feeling I have right now, is toO great to be worrying about my lungs and their need for air. Ember pulls away just as out of breath as I am.We’re both panting, but she recovers normally, her breaths still shaky, but now even. I’m still panting, and this time I don’t conceal my embarrassingly heavy breathing, because If I do, I’m sure to pass out. At this point passing out would be more embarrassing than having loud, heavy breaths.Ember leans her head up to my ear, her soft lips brushing my ear as she speaks quietly,“I love you too.”My breathing was just about regular, and now she’s messed that up again. Not that I’m complaining.I let out a breath of relief, and close my eyes. I focus on breathing for a few seconds, then open my eyes and look down to see her already staring at me.“Say it again,” I whisper, smiling down at her.She smiles back up at me, “I love you too, Calum.”…Ember’s POVI stand there staring up at Calum, and I could not be happier. The butterflies in my stomach are going crazy, and my heart is beating so fast. The fact that he said it first, it makes me so happy. I thought I was going to be one of “those girls” who would tell their boyfriend they love them too soon and make everything awkward. I had no idea that he felt that strongly about me, and I still can’t believe it.“Please tell me I’m not dreaming,” I whisper and lay my head on his chest, where I can hear his heart beating rapidly.“You’re not dreaming,” he reaches down and pinches my butt. I squeal and jump away from him, hitting his chest lightly.“Calum!”“What? It’s that what people do other people when they think they’re dreaming?” he gives me an innocent look.I just glare at him, “Yes, but you didn’t have to do it on my butt!” I place my hands on my hips ignoring him giving me puppy dog eyes.“You look so cute when you’re all worked up,” he laughs and ruffles my hair.I slap his hand away and blush, “You’re an idiot.”He grins and places his hands on my waist pulling me into him, “Yes, but I’m your idiot, and you love me for it.”I roll my eyes but smile up at him. He puckers up his lips and squeezes his eyes shut. I giggle and lean in, but before I can press my lips to his, my mom calls out my name.“Ember! Could you and Calum come down for a minute.”Calum gives me a look, and I shrug.“Lucy probably saw us and ratted us out,” I say mock-seriously, but Calum doesn’t know that. His eyes widen, and he looks horrified for a minute.“I’m just kidding! She probably just needs help with dinner,” I grin up at him. Relief washes over his face, then a frown.“You’re so mean,” he pouts, and I can’t help but laugh at how adorable he is.I lean my head up to his ear, “Just think of it as payback for pinching my ass,” I whisper, then quickly get out of his grasp and hurry out of the door. He’s shocked for a minute, then catches up to me once I’m halfway down the stairs. He’s right on my heels and I let out a squeal when he grabs my butt once more. He lets go of me just as quickly as he grabbed me, and strolls into the kitchen as if nothing had happened. I walk in red faced and flustered, and my mom gives us a weird look before speaking.“I need your guy’s help with dinner, if that’s alright,” she looks at Calum, knowing that I have no choice in the matter.“Yeah of course,” he smiles.“Perfect! Okay Ember I need your help breading the chicken, and Calum, would you mind helping Lucy set the table?”He agrees and mom shows him where everything is. He starts to hand the light stuff to Lucy and takes the heavy things to the table himself. When he reaches up to get the cups from the top shelf of a cupboard his shirt rides up, showing off his tanned skin, and his V-line. I quickly look away, trying not to be caught staring at him.I grab a piece of chicken and start breading it, trying to act casual. He walks past me, his hand brushing my butt again, and he gives it a light squeeze. I do nothing to react but squirm a little. My mom glances over at me, but I smile, trying to convince her that nothing happened. She just shakes her head and continues making the sauce for the chicken. After ten minutes of lonely chicken breading, I’m finished, and I ask my mother what I can do next, wanting to get done and be with Calum again.“You and Calum can make a salad, cut up two cucumbers and tomatoes for it, and don’t cut yourself again,” She hands me the cutting board and knife. I roll my eyes, remembering about the incident that happened last time I helped with dinner.I grab all of the things needed to make a salad and head to the dining area. I walk to the table where Calum is twirling Lucy, who is still in her unitard and tutu, around and dancing with her. I watch them for a minute, and giggle when Calum twirls around, and catches my eye. His cheeks instantly start to turn red, and he stills his actions.“Having fun?” I question putting everything on the table. He looks down at Lucy who is still dancing, “Loads.”I grin “Well I’m sorry to interrupt it, but we need to make a salad, chefs orders.”He leans down to Lucy, “We’ll continue this later,” he promises and pats her head.He saunters over to me, all of his previous embarrassment gone.“Peel this,” I hand him a cucumber and the peeler.“Bossy bossy,” he comments in a sassy tone, causing a grin to form on my face.“Only to you, babe,” I smirk and start to cut up the tomato, being cautious.Calum looks at me in shock for a moment, then his face changes to admiration. I tilt my head to the side, “What?”He just shakes his head, focusing on peeling the cucumber. I shrug it off, and sprinkle the bits of tomato into the salad, starting on the second one. I finish the second tomato and start cutting up the first cucumber that Calum peeled. I move onto the second one once he hands it to me, quickly finishing the salad and placing it in the middle of the table.“Done with the salad, what else mom?” I turn to the kitchen. She looks around thinking for a minute, “Looks like everything’s done. You’re free to go. Just don’t get too comfortable, dinner will be done in twenty minutes, and your father will be joining us tonight.” she gives me a pointed look at I just nod.“Alright call for us when it’s ready,” I grab Calum’s hand and starting walking him up the stairs.“Ember,” my mother’s voice calls, and I don’t bother turning around.“The door stays open, I know,” I recite, she chuckles but doesn’t say anything else.I walk into my room still holding Calum’s hand. I notice his guitar case next to my bed. I pick it up, setting it on the bed, and sitting next to it.“Why’d you bring this in?” I ask curiously.Calum sits next to me, shrugging, “I don’t know. Thought maybe I’d play it sometime.”I nod and open the case, carefully taking it out and holding it in my arms. I strum random strings.“Do you know how to play?” he asks while watching me.I shake my head, “No idea.”“I could teach you some chords, it’s pretty easy,” he offers, and I nod.“Okay.”He places his arms around me, and starts moving the fingers on my left hand on certain strings.“This one here, that one there, and this one here. Okay, now strum,” I do as he says, and I’m pretty impressed with the sound that comes from it. It’s by no means as good as Calum could do, but good for the first time I’ve ever played.I turn to Calum, beaming, “Show me another one.”He grins and rearranges my fingers, and tells me to strum again. I do and I’m impressed with the sound again. We go on and on, but after a few more chords, my fingers begin to hurt.“Okay, your turn. Play me something,” I hand the guitar to Calum, and scoot to the back of the bed, resting my back against the headboard, crossing my legs.“Alright,” He starts to strum, and I recognize the song immediately. Wonderwall by Oasis, one of my favorite songs of all times. I start to sing along with him, and he grins up at me. Once the song is finished, he places the guitar on the ground and leans over to kiss me lightly. He breaks the kiss before it can become heated. He lies down and places his head in my lap. I can’t help but start to play with his hair. His eyes flutter closed, and he looks so peaceful. I start to think that he fell asleep, so when he speaks I jump a little.“What did your mom mean when she said that your dad would be joining us for dinner tonight?” his eyes remaining closed.I take a moment to think, “He’s a lawyer so he usually isn’t home for dinner, but tonight he’s making an exception.”Calum gulps, and takes in a deep breath, showing that he’s nervous about meeting my dad. I lean down and place a kiss to his upside down forehead.“Don’t worry, my dad will love you. He may come off as tough but he’s just a big teddy bear,” I whisper and sit up leaning against the headboard of my bed again. He simply hums in reply. I continue playing with his hair, my own eyes closing. We sit there in silence for a few minutes, until a knock rings out on my door, and my eyes snap open. My mom stands there leaning against the doorframe smiling softly at the sight of us.“Dinner’s ready, and your father’s here,” she announces softly, and starts at us for a minute longer before walking away with a content look on her face.I look down at Calum to see his eyes still closed. I hear soft snores coming from his lips, and realize that he’s asleep.“Cal,” I ruffle his hair, after a few more times his eyes flutter open, those gorgeous chocolate irises staring up at me.“Yeah?” his sleepy voice is beyond sexy.“Dinner’s ready, and my dad’s here,” at that he sits up, fully awake now.He takes in a deep breath and stands up. He fixes his clothes, and runs a hand through his hair, styling it messily. I stand up and fix my own clothes and hair, and grab his hand. He turns to me.“You’re sure he’ll like me?” his face fills with worry.I smile and nod up to him, “Yes, I’m sure he’ll like you,” I bring our intertwined hands up to my lips and kiss his knuckles lightly. He lets out a breath and nods his head, believing me. “Lets go.”I grin up and him and lead our way down to the kitchen. My dad stands with his back to us, his broad shoulders covered in his expensive suit.“Hey dad,” I say and let go of Calum’s hand to give him a hug once turns around. He hugs me back tightly, his smile huge. He pulls away and see’s Calum, and his smile falters slightly.“Hello pumpkin. Who is this?” he eyes Calum up and down. I grab Cal’s hand, squeezing it tight knowing that he’s most likely feeling pretty nervous again.“This, is my boyfriend, Calum,” I announce, starting to get nervous as well.“Boyfriend?” My father’s eyebrows raise, “So this is the young man your mother has been telling me about.”I nod, knowing that my mom wouldn’t be able to keep her mouth shut since I told her when I got home yesterday. Calum gulps again, noticing my father’s skeptical look on his face.“Calum, has Ember ever told you about my large gun collection?” He asks dead serious. My mouth drops open, and I am unable to speak. Calum’s eyes widen, and he starts to sputter.“U-uh no, s-sir, she h-hasn’t m-m-mentioned it,” he starts to shake from fear. This is the most nervous and scared I have ever seen him.A huge grin forms on my father’s face, and he starts to laugh, “Oh calm down kid, I’m only joking. It’s nice to meet you,” He holds out his hand for Calum to take. Calum lets out a huge breath of relief and takes my dad’s hand.“Oh, Frank, you almost gave the boor boy a heart attack!” My mom swats my dad’s arm.“I was just playing around,” He rolls his eyes and releases Calum’s hand walking into the kitchen most likely for a beer, getting scolded by my mom the whole way there.Calum lets his head fall back, and he starts laughing.“I am so sorry,” I finally speak, feeling so embarrassed. He just smiles and shakes his head, “I like your dad.”Chapter 9!THEY SAID THEIR FIRST “I LOVE YOU'S” AWWWWW they’re so cute *heart eyes emoji*and for those of you who think they said it too soon, I honestly don’t care (oops) they’ve been in love with eachother for years and years, why shouldn’t they admit it to each other once they’re finally happy.I just love Ember’s dad, so much.
