Chapter 32Song for this chapter:Medicine - The 1975 “Yeah you rid me of the blues, ever since you came into my life.” ★☆★ Vivian’s POV I wake up the next morning, and immediately feel disoriented. My head aches dully, and I can’t remember anything. I roll over and look at my alarm clock, my eyes widening when I see that school starts in less than twenty minutes.I jump up and throw on the same jeans that I wore yesterday, and a random shirt before slipping on some shoes and start to search for my bag. I see my math books out and remember that I didn’t finish my math homework.“Great!” I mutter, shoving them into my backpack. I notice a glass bottle on my desk, and turn it around to read that it contains Vodka.I squeeze my eyes shut, praying that I didn’t do anything stupid after I drank it–because I remember now the horrible taste of it. I throw it in my garbage and grab my keys before walking out of my room and down the stairs.Sonya hands me a granola bar and wishes me a good day at school. Right as I’m about to open the garage door, I hear my voice called out by a deep voice. I turn around, and face my father, not saying anything.“Your friend that came over yesterday left an impression,” he says. , and I expect him to carry onYour friend that came over yesterday? Someone came over yesterday?Dear god please don’t let it have been Luke!He doesn’t say anything else, so I escape into the garage, then head to school, my thoughts never ceasing.I arrive at the school just as the warning bell rings. I hurry into math, and slip into my seat as the bell rings. I look over at Luke, and he gives me a small smile, and I can see his cheeks turning slightly pink. He’s blushing! Why is he blushing?! Did I do something embarrassing?Mr. Hensley starts talking about our end of the year reviewing, and try to pay attention, but all I can think about is what I could have done last night. When the bell rings, it surprises me, causing me to jump out of my seat. Kenzie and a few other people laugh, but I ignore them, and gather my things up. I see Luke’s black converse approach me, and take in a deep breathe.“Hey, Vivian,” he says, and I can tell that he’s smiling.I look up, and there it is, his pearly white grin, which causes a rush of butterflies, and worry in my stomach, “Hi.”“How are you?”I glance up at him again, and finish placing my things into my bag, “I’m good. How are you?”“Tired. I didn’t get much sleep last night,” he says conversationally.I squeeze my eyes shut and finally say it, “What did I do last night, that was totally embarrassing, because I can’t remember anything past drinking that horrible stuff.”Luke takes in a breath out of surprise, “You didn’t do anything embarrassing.”I roll my eyes and finally look at him, “We both know that I did, just spit it out.”“Well you kept calling me Prince Charming, then you tried to make out with me, but ended up falling asleep,” He laughs lightly, giving me another smile.I cover my face, feeling my cheeks getting hotter than I’ve ever felt them get before, “What else did I do?” I ask, my voice muffled by my hands.“Nothing,” Luke says softly, taking my hands from my face, and staring into my eyes.I look up at him shyly, “Promise?”“Promise,” he whispers, and there’s something about the sincerity of his smile makes me doubt his honesty. Not wanting to hear anything else that would embarrass me, I let it go.Luke grins at me as he sees my shoulders relax, “Good, now get to class before we’re both late.” He grins, and right as I’m about to turn around he pulls me back to him, and places a sweet, lingering kiss on my unexpecting lips, then lets go of me and walks in the opposite direction, turning around only to give me a wink that causes more butterflies in my stomach than there were already.★☆★At lunch Alex and I sit with Luke and the boys, as usual, but this time Annie sits next to me, and Charlie next to her. The boys they both brought to my birthday party stay at their table, which confuses me.“Hi Viv, boys,” Annie grins at all of us, “This is Charlie, as you probably already know.”Charlie gives us all a small wave and a smile.“We,” she says, pointing at the two of them, “are having an end-of-the-school-year, party at Charlie’s house, on the last day of school, and wanted to invite all of you!”My eyes widen with surprise, but I grin and nod, “That sounds like fun!”The boys and Alex all agree with a chorus of “yeah”’s. Annie and Charlie both look relieved.“Oh good, because if you didn’t come, it would just be the band,” Charlie says, causing us all laugh.Annie perks up, “Invite as many friends as you want; the more the merrier! I’ll tell Viv all the details in English, and let her pass it on to all of you, sound good?”We all nod, and the two girls smile even bigger, “Perfect, we’ve gotta go ask more people, but we’ll see you guys later!” It’s Charlie that says this, and the two of them get up to migrate to other tables.“I didn’t know that you were friends with those two,” Luke looks over at me, his eyebrows raised.I shrug, “Annie and I are partners for an English assignment, and we’ve become friends. I’ve only talked to Charlie a few times before.”Everyone nods, and we all return to eating. I can’t help but smile down at my lunch, feeling ecstatic for being invited to their party. I’ve to always wanted to be friends with the band kids, because they’re all so nice, and don’t care about being popular. This just might be my chance to make some new friends. The bell rings, signalling the end of lunch. We all dump our trays, then part ways to our next classes. I walk into English, and sit down, grinning at Annie. She starts to fill me in everything, and I take out my phone and type everything so I don’t forget anything. She’s finished by the time the bell rings, and I grin at her, even more excited than I was before.★☆★The weekend finally arrives, leaving me ecstatic to go to my aunts. The words my father said keep repeating in my mind:“Your friend that came over yesterday left an impression.”Was it a bad impression, or a good one? I hope it was a good one, but I have no clue what Luke said, and all I can imagine is him defending me against my father, and that could have left a bad impression. I just really hope that Luke didn’t say anything too bad, because I have no clue what my father might do.I pull into the driveway of my aunt’s house, and try to clear my mind, but can’t help but worry about what Luke said. It’s driving me insane. I shake my head as I start thinking about it again, and walk in the front door, instantly smelling something delicious cooking in the kitchen.“Vivian!” Alex squeals, then runs towards me, hugging me as if we didn’t sit next to each other at lunch.I hug her back anyway, “Hi!”“Did I hear Vivian?” Julian’s voice booms, and he bounds towards me, attacking me in a bear hug.“Yep,” I laugh, hugging him tightly, relaxing instantly from his warmth.“Sooooooooo,” Julian holds out the vowel, causing me to laugh again, “We’re all going to the arcade!”“Oh!” I exclaim, shocked.“Yeah, we’re leaving now,” he says, and tries to push me back towards the front door.I start to protest, “But I want to say hi to Aunt Mel and mom!”“You have ple–” he stops abruptly, a wide smile forming on his lips, “You called her ‘mom’!”I’m just as shocked as he is, “Yeah, I guess I did.”“She’ll be so happy, she’s been worrying so much about you ever since Luke came by and talked to her,” he says casually.“He what?!” I screech, my eyes widening.“We’ll talk about that in the car,” Julian says, looking guilty.I start to protest, but he pushes me out the door and towards his car before I can get three words out. I climb into the front seat of Julian’s car, turning towards him immediately, looking expectant.“He what?” I repeat.Julian sighs, and takes his time putting his seatbelt on and starting the car, “He came over looking worried as hell, and he asked to talk to mom. They talked for nearly an hour before he left.”“What did they talk about?” I question, even more worries going through my brain.“I don’t think that’s my story to tell,” Julian says, looking nervous, most likely of my reaction.“But I deserve to know!” I exclaim, feeling frustrated that he won’t tell me.He shrugs, “Then ask him about it. I invited him and his crew too.”“What? Why are we even going to the arcade anyway? We haven’t been in years.”He looks over at me before returning his eyes on the road, “We all thought you deserved a fun break from life. Plus, they just added in a laser-tag course and I’ve been dying to try it out!”I nod, feeling appreciative, “Thank you, it does sound like fun.”“You’re welcome, now come on!” He says, and I realize that we’ve arrived at the arcade. I recognize Ashton and Calum’s cars, and scramble out of the car, ready to talk to Luke. Wewalk in and pay, then search for the others. I spot Michael, and head towards him, finding the other three.“Vivian!” Michael exclaims, holding out his arms.“I need to talk to you,” I say to Luke, ignoring the others.Luke looks shocked, but nods, and leads me to the eating area. I walk past Alex, who’s talking to Ashton, her cheeks blazing red, and am momentarily distracted by the two of them, until I remember what I needed to say to Luke. We sit down in the corner, away from anyone, where it’s relatively quieter.“What did you wanna talk about?” he asks, playing with his lip ring nervously.I blink, and look away from his tempting lips, and into his eyes, “Julian told me that you went to talk to my mom this week.”“Oh, that,” he says, scratching the back of his neck.I raise my eyebrows at him, indicating him to explain. He sighs, “It was after you called me and you were drunk. You passed out, so I left after an hour or so, then ran into your dad, and then I went to your aunt’s.”“What did you say to them?” I ask, worried, and slightly angry/“Who, your parent’s, or your aunt?” He looks confused, but I know that he’s stalling.I close my eyes for a moment and take in a breath, before replying, “My parents.”“Um, well I just told your dad about how much you hate it where you are, and how wrong it is that he’s keeping you there.” he answers, and I can tell that he’s not telling the whole truth.Running my hands through my hair, I look up at him, “And my mom?”He visibly swallows, “Before I tell you, I need you to know that what I did was out of pure love, and worry about you.”All I can think is:Did he just say he loved me?So I nod my head absentmindedly, not really listening to what he said.“I told you mum about you calling me and you were drunk,” that part I was listening to, and my head snaps towards him, but he starts talking again before I can, “she was worried sick. She was begging me to help you as much as I can to get out of that place. I’ve never even seen my mum cry that much, Vivian, she really cares about you, and how you are.”I have no idea what to say, I’m angry for him telling my mother, a recovering alcoholic, that I turned to alcohol like she did, but also touched that she really was worried about me.Finally, I look back up at Luke, “How could you tell her?”I see the guilt in his eyes, and I can tell that he truly does feel bad, “Viv, I was just as worried as your mum was! I didn’t want you drinking to turn into something more than what it was! It killed me that you turned to alcohol instead of me.” The last part is quieter, and it makes my stomach flip.“I know, it was so stupid, I’m never drinking again; alcohol is disgusting.” I shudder, remembering the horrible taste of it.Luke bites his lip again, then looks at me with those gorgeous blue eyes, “Are we okay?”“Of course we are, we’d never not be okay,” I smile slightly, and Luke grins in return.“Good, now lets go kick some ass at skee-ball.”★☆★Author’s note:This update took forever, just like the last few, and I honestly am sorry. My excuse is that school started this week, and I’ve been busy, and I’ve had major writer’s block so that didn’t help at all.Just letting you all know that there are only two chapters yet, but I haven’t decided if I’m going to do a prologue yet.I hope you enjoyed this chapter, and if you did, please give it some notes.
