agro-carnist:@asylum-the-wolfBefore I go into this, I just wanna say that it’s fucking hilarious that a yiff blog is commenting on dinosaurs and taxonomyFirst of all: We never stopped classifying birds as dinosaurs. Like I said to the op of the original clusterfuck of stupid, birds and dinosaurs belong to sauropsida and are thus, by clade, the same thing. Any ornithologist, herpetologist, or paleontologist will tell you that birds are a subset of dinosaurs - avian theropod dinosaurs to be exact.Second of all: not that big a deal, but theropods are incredibly diverse and are the largest class of saurischian dinosaurs (one of two classes of dinosaurs). So the raptors are not a “very narrow” classification of dinosaurs.Third of all, and this is the most important thing I want to point out: LIZARDS DID NOT EVOLVE FROM DINOSAURS, so it would be quite stupid to be calling your pet bearded dragon a dinosaur. Some reptiles are more closely related to birds than to lizards, which belong to order squamata, which inlcudes snakes. You cannot evolve out of your evolutionary history. A dinosaur will never ever evolve into a Not Dinosaur, because that’s not how taxonomy works. All vertebrates will produce vertebrates. All mammals will produce mammals. All cats will produce cats. No vertebrate, mammal, or cat will evolve into something that will no longer be classified as a vertebrate, mammal, or cat. That’s why people are still basically glorified bony fish (though we don’t call people fish since that’s not a taxonomic term).Learn about evolution and taxonomy before making comments like this, and just stick to the yiff.Petition to make “glorified bony fish” a scientific term. It would really spice up all those biology textbooks. -- source link
