Mākaha is remarkable as it is the only major break I have seen where women would make up 50% of the lineup. I was incredibly fortunate to be accepted among the Westside Wahine, and I owed that all to the great-heartedness of Rell Sunn. Bernie snapped this during an event of which I was not a competitor. I was simply out there, in a black one piece suit, with Ripcurl rashguard on top as I get chilly out in the water no matter how balmy it is.
