Chapter 19Song for this chapterFear and Loathing - Marina and the Diamonds “Not everyone is out to screw you over, Maybe, oh just maybe, they wanna get to know you.” ★☆★ Vivian’s POVI can’t stop smiling as I drive. Luke tells me when to turn, and we arrive at a fair sized house within ten minutes. I part the car, and turn it off, but don’t get out. I’ve been worried that the guys will ask questions about the bruised hand print on my face. I don’t want to talk about it, but I know that the conversation is inevitable.“Hey, if you want to leave we can, they’ll understand,” Luke says, and takes my hand. He’s been so amazing to me, and I don’t deserve it.Luke is such a good person, and I don’t deserve any of his hospitality. All I’ve ever been is rude to him, and pushed him away. He deserves a better friend than me, so that’s what I’m going to try to be.I want to become a better person for him, because he’s my only true friend right now. Kenzie is only my friend for my money, and everyone else for the same reason. I’m so grateful for Luke being here for me, even though I don’t deserve it at all.“They deserve to know,” I whisper, and finally look up at Luke. His gorgeous blue eyes widen, and he shakes his head.“Vivian, you don’t have to tell them.”I shake my head, “I know, but I want to. You’re my only true friend, Luke, and if your friends are anything like you, I have to be honest with them to gain their friendship. I learned that from you.” I smile at him, but he looks shocked.“Vivian, do you even remember how Ashton and Michael talked about you?”I sigh, “Yes, I do, but everyone makes mistakes Luke. I can’t just keep a grudge against them, besides they apologized and I forgave them.”He shakes his head, but smiles, “You are such an amazing person, you know that?”I grin, “Not as amazing as you, Luke.” Before he can reply, I get out of the car, and walk up to the front door. I press the doorbell, and wait. Luke walks up behind me, and I know that he wants to say something, but the door swings open before he can.“Vivian!” Calum grins, and pulls me into a tight hug. I laugh, but hug him back. Once he pulls away, he notices the bruise on my face, but I stop him.“I’ll explain it to everyone, just not right now.” I say, and he nods, and looks at Luke.“Ash and Mike are downstairs, go ahead if you’d like.” Calum points to an open door that leads to stairs going downstairs. I nod, and head down, but Calum and Luke don’t follow me.I hear the sound of gunshots, and hear the two boys shouting at each other. As I enter the room, there’s a huge flatscreen tv that’s screen is split into two horizontally. The screens move quickly, and there are animated bombs and gun shots going off.“There on your back! Turn around asshole!!” Michael’s shouting.“How?!!!” Ashton shouts back, looking distressed.I can’t help but start laughing as Michael continues to shout at Ashton. Once they finally realize that I’m here, Michael pauses the game and attacks me in a bear hug.“What’s with you guys hugging me all of the sudden?” I laugh, and hug Michael back.“Well, ever since we’ve realized how big of assholes we’ve been, we gotta make it up somehow,” Ashton grins, and pulls me into a hug right after Michael releases me.“You already made it up,” I reply and hug him back. He pulls away after a moment.“I have no–” but he stops abruptly and his eyes go wide, “–who did this to you?” He points to my cheek, and when Michael sees it, his eyes go wide to.“I promise I’ll explain, but only when you’re all here to listen. I really don’t want to have to talk about it longer than I have to,” I answer, and Ashton nods, backing away from me slightly. Footsteps sound from above us, and Calum and Luke walk down the stairs towards us. Calum looks disappointed, and Luke has red cheeks and a slight frown on his face. Their facial expressions lighten when they look around the room. I take a deep breath, and look at Luke, before starting to speak. “Let’s just get this over with.” As I tell them everything that I told Luke, their facial expressions are all almost exactly the same. They’re shocked, then furious, then sympathetic. I do my best to keep my tears at bay, but when I tell them that it was my father that hit me, one slips, followed by the rest. Luke is quickly at my side, rubbing my back soothingly, “You don’t have to finish.” I shake my head at him, and take a few deep breaths, before continuing. After a few more torturous moments, of explaining, I’m finally done, and all they do to reply is hug me. They take turns, and each hug is different, Michael’s is gentle, as if I could break at any moment. Calums is tight, as if he’s trying to squeeze all of the pain out of me. Ashton’s, is the longest. He hugs me like Julian would, like an older brother, trying to protect me. “I’m so sorry that I’ve judged you so quickly, I’m so sorry Vivian, I am so sorry.” I feel wetness on my shoulder, and start crying myself. “It’s okay Ashton, I’ve forgiven you, I promise. I just need some true friends to help me get through this.” I pull away from him, and wipe my face. “Then we’ll be the truest friends we can,” He replies softly, giving me a serious look. Never in a million years would I think that I would be friends with these four boys who I hadn’t even spoken to until a few weeks/months *() ago. “So, how about we move onto some happier things, like that we might have a gig that more than twelve people come to!” Calum claps his hands together, and sends me a huge grin. My mood immediately brightens when I hear the news, “Really?” I never knew that they were a serious band, for all I knew they just made covers and posted them on YouTube. I never even asked what their band was called. I can’t help but feel guilty that I didn’t care enough to even ask what their band was called. “Yeah! This club finally answered an email, and said that they have an opening next month,” He grins at me, and walks over to the other side of the room where three guitars, and a drumset are. “Do you guys really think we’re ready for a big crowd?” Luke asks, and I see him biting on his lip. I can tell that he’s nervous. “Dude, yes I’m positive,” Calum claps a hand on Luke’s back, “You just gotta be more confident about yourself bro!” Luke just shrugs, but walks over and picks up one of the guitars. They all quickly sit down on chairs, and Ashton at his drumset. Michael and Luke both have expensive looking electric guitars, and Calum an equally looking bass guitar. They aren’t plugged into amps, but I can’t tell that they’re going to be plenty enough. “What should we play?” Ashton asks.“Out of my Limit!” Michael shouts, and grins. I see Luke turn around and say something to him, but I can’t hear it from where I’m sitting. Michael smirks, while Luke turns around, looking mad, and slightly embarrassed, but it goes away quickly as Ashton counts to four, and they all start playing. I’m surprised by how in sync they are with each other. When Calum starts to sing, I’m amazed at how good he is. He’s not as good as Luke in my opinion, but he’s still amazing in his own ways. I enjoy every second I can of them all playing and singing together. They play a few more songs, then stop playing and they all look at me. “What do you think?” Calum asks, and I stand up. “You guys are amazing! You’re totally ready for a bigger audience than me,” I answer honestly, and laugh lightly. “Well, thank you, you were an amazing audience,” Michael grins, causing me to laugh harder. I really think I’m going to really like this group of friends.★☆★“You’re sure you want to do this?” Luke asks for what seems to be the hundredth time. We’re sitting in my car, outside of the school. The weekend went by quickly. Half of the time, we were at Ashton’s house, and I got to watch them practice for their gig. The other half of the time, I spend cuddling with Luke on his couch, watching movies. He’s been so good to me, and I don’t deserve it. I don’t even understand why he’s so nice to me. Ever since I first talked to him I was rude, and I got him punched in the face, from his own best friend. He’s such a good person, and I don’t deserve to have him as a friend. “I’m positive Luke, I can’t just stay home for the rest of my life,” I laugh, and look over at him with a small smile. “I know, but at least a week longer, so everyone can stop talking about it,” He shrugs, and I know exactly what he means. Ever since the party, I know everyone’s been spreading rumors about what they think happened. I’m sure some people have guessed what really happened, that the drunk woman my father brought home was the one he is cheating on my mother with. I don’t care what they think though, not anymore. I used to worry so much about what everyone thought of me, that I would get sick to my stomach. Just the thought that someone might find out that I’ve been telling them all lies, and that my life isn’t nearly as perfect as they think it is, would make me stay up at night with worry. Now, that I actually have real friends that know the truth, I don’t care what anyone thinks, even if they do know the truth. “I don’t care anymore, they can think what they want. I’m not going to let it affect me anymore,” I say seriously, as if i’m trying to convince myself. Luke smiles at me, “That’s amazing Vivian. You’re changing, and it’s great. Things are going to turn around for you, I know it,” he climbs out of the car after I do, and walks around to me, taking my hand and giving it a gentle squeeze. “And I have you to thank for helping me deal with these changes,” I reply, and we start to walk to the school. “It’s honestly the least I could do,” he laughs, and let’s go of my hand to open the door for me. As we walk down the hallways, I know people are looking at us, and probably assuming that we’re together. I laugh at the thought, of Luke and I together. Sure we’ve kissed, but he’s nothing more than a really good friend that I don’t deserve. I spot Kenzie down by her locker, surrounded with all of her fake friends. She spots me, and dramatically gasps, then runs down the hallway–as fast as she can run in three inch heels–and pulls me into a tight hug. “Oh Vivian where have you been? I’ve been so worried about you!” She exclaims dramatically, and it takes everything in me not to roll my eyes. “I took some time to figure stuff out,” I answer honestly, looking over at Luke who nods encouragingly at me. “Why weren’t you at your house? I went there like three times, because I really needed to get some mani’s and pedi’s! My cuticles are horrendous!” She exclaims, pouting as she looks at her fingernails. I start to get mad, but try to not care, “Oh, I’m sorry that I wasn’t there for you when you needed me Kenz. I was with a true friend of mine.” I reach over slightly with my hand and run my fingers along Lukes. He doesn’t take my hand, but just feeling his warm skin makes me feel calmer. “Viv, what are you talking about?” She looks confused, and this time I do roll my eyes. “Oh come one Kenzie, quit playing dumb. Aren’t you tired of these games?” I ask tiredly. She shakes her head, “I have no clue what you mean.” “Pretending to be my friend so you can buy anything you want, or throw these amazing parties, go do whatever you want, because hey, Vivian’s dad is rich, so I can just use her as my own personal ATM!” My voice is getting louder, but Luke’s fingers find mine, and his thumb runs over the back of my hand, helping me to calm down. “Vivian, I would never–” I shake my head, and hold up my other hand to stop her from lying. “It’s over Kenzie, I’m cutting you off. You were a good friend in middle school, but not anymore. Have a nice life,” I truly mean every word I say. I pull on Luke’s hand, and walk away towards our math class.“Hey,” He stops walking after we’ve turned down the hallway. He turns towards me, and looks directly into my eyes. “What you just did was so brave.” I shrug, “I was sick of her treating me so badly, and being so miserable. I have you and the other guys now, so I don’t need that.” He smiles at me, and squeezes my hand gently, “It still took some guts. Give yourself some credit.” “Thank you,” I smile up at him, and the bell rings. “Come on, we’ve got a long day ahead of us.”★☆★Authors notechapter 19! so Viv and the boys are getting closer! and Viv broke it off with Kenzie ooh, I never liked her, she was a horrible friend. tell me what you think!Hugs & Kisses-Hannahxx -- source link
