akroan-acolyte:flavoracle:Image above originally from http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/magic-fundamentals/magic-general/624121-mtg-guilds-shards-and-wedges-in-a-circle Earlier tonight @akroan-acolyte completed a long-held dream of mine to create watermark icons for the different shards of Alara. (If you haven’t seen them yet, you should totally check them out.) My new dream is that someday someone will make a chart like the one above, but using all of the watermarks from Ravnica, Tarkir, and the ones @akroan-acolyte made for Alara. That’d be so SWEET!! Is someone already working on this? Or am I allowed to do this also?Something occurred to me this morning. I was trying to think of how a chart like this with icons could be laid out, and the problem I kept running into is that the shards and wedges kept overlapping the guilds in order to connect all of them to their appropriate colors. The person who made the chart above came up with a workable solution of putting the wedges outside a bit, but they’re really not connected to all three colors. Then I had an idea… What if the shards and wedges weren’t connected to their base colors, but to their corresponding guilds? Ally color guilds combined to make shards, and enemy color guilds to make wedges? Shards: Azorius + Dimir = EsperDimir + Rakdos = Grixis Rakdos + Gruul = Jund Gruul + Selesnya = Naya Selesnya + Azorius = Bant Wedges: Orzhov + Boros = Mardu Boros + Izzet = Jeskai Izzet + Simic = Temur Simic + Golgari = Sultai Golgari + Orzhov = Abzan That way there could be an outer layer for the five colors, a middle layer for the guilds, and an inner layer for the shards and wedges. (I’m trying to see if I can create a quick mockup sketch to see if this could actually work, and what it might look like.) -- source link
