Description: Calum Hood, the schools golden boy. He’s the reason that the varsity team is undefeated for four years. He’s got perfect grades, a scholarship to one of the best colleges in the country. But no one knows his secret, that his passion for music is bigger than his passion for soccer. And what happens when Ember Williams finds out that secret? Read to find out! Chapter 2 3. Calum’s POVI watch her rush out, completely disappointed. This girl has been on my mind for four years, and suddenly she walks in on me practicing my guitar. I’ve been coming in here during lunch ever since Freshman year. And only now she’s discovered that.I see her hanging around with her two friends constantly. She’s never alone, so I’ve never gotten a chance to approach her while she’s alone. I don’t know what got into me to ask her to meet me here today. I saw a chance to get her alone, so I took it. And I am so glad I did.Ember is a phenomenal singer. Hearing her sing one of my favorite songs, made me like her a whole lot more. I was about to do what I have wanted to do for so long, and kiss her. It looked as if she wanted to kiss me too, but I might not ever know because her phone rang and she rushed out.Why would she want to kiss me anyway? She is so far out of my league. So smart and studious, definitely going to good college. The only thing I have going for me is my soccer and it’s a one in 1 million shot to become successful through that sport. My thoughts are interrupted when my phone starts ringing I looked down to see that it is my teammate, Tyler“Hey.” “Dude where the hell are you?! Practice started a half hour ago! Coach is gonna give you hell” he shouts through the phone.“Shit I’ll be there in five seconds.” I hurry and put the guitar away and run to the locker room, ready for a long and tortuous practice.3 hours laterI collapse on the bleachers in the boys locker room, panting to catch my breath. I squeeze my eyes closed and focus on regulating my heart rate. Doing this is something I’ve learned to do, to prevent myself from having an asthma attack, and/or passing out, which is not a fun thing to do.“Hood. In my office. Now.” Coaches voice rings out through the locker room, and it does not sound happy.I groan and get up. Tyler gives me a look of ‘good luck’ and pats my back as I walk past him. I’m still trying to catch my breath when I get to his office.I sit down the the chair across from his, a table sitting in between us.“Calum why were you a half hour late to practice today?” He asks gruffly.“I…” I take a few deep breaths while trying to think of what to say “I forgot….”“Oh come on Calum you’ve never even missed a practice, even when you broke your leg you still showed up! What happened?”I sigh, finally being able to catch my breath, “I lost track of time okay?“Lost track of time doing what?” Coach narrows his eyes at me“I was.. Er.. Getting extra help..” I scratch the back of my neck.Coach pinches the bridge of his nose and sighs, “I don’t care anymore. Just don’t be late again, and you better be ready for tomorrow.”“I won’t be late again, and you know I’ll be ready. Thanks coach.” I exit quickly and head for the showers.“Bro why were you so late?” Tyler asks.“I lost track of time.” I get under the hot water, my tight muscles immediately starting to relax.“You were with a girl weren’t you?” He asks smugly.“What? No!” I feel the heat rush to my face.“You were! Who was it?” His eyes widen.“I wasn’t with a girl.” I groan“It was Christie Simms wasn’t it? She’s always had something for you, and her rack is huge.” He nods in a congratulatory fashion.“God no it was not Christie.” I reply incredulously.“Then who? Shannon Wesley? Her ass is fine.”I shake my head, “No! Christ, Tyler.”“Then who was it?” He scrunched his eyebrows together.“I was with Ember Williams, and I wasn’t doing any of that with her you disgusting pervert!” I roll my eyes at him.“Who’s Ember Williams?”I sigh, “A girl okay let it go.”“No dude I want to know, is she hot?”I groan and ignore him. It’s not that I don’t think she’s hot, I just don’t like that word. I feel like it’s too sexual, and all about the person’s body. With Ember, I love her personality, how passionate she is about music. How when she gets engrossed in a book, she doesn’t pay attention to anything around her. How when she’s focusing on something she squints her eyes and sticks her tongue out slightly. And for her physical appearance she’s so beautiful. She doesn’t wear makeup and I’m glad she doesn’t, because she doesn’t need it. She isn’t skinny, and I don’t care about that. She’s just perfect. As hard as I try to forget about her, knowing I’d never have a shot with her, I can’t get her out of my head, and it’s driving me insane.“Woah dude, you actually like this girl.” His eyes get wide in disbelief.“Shut up.” I finish washing my body and turn off the shower, grabbing my towel and wrapping it around my waist.“Dude you actually like her! I gotta meet this chick!”“You already have, nimrod.” I grumble under my breath and get dressed quickly before heading out the locker room, home, having only one girl on my mind.Ember’s POVI pick up Lucy, and bribe her with her favorite ice cream, to make sure that she doesn’t tell mom that I forgot to pick her up. Once we got home we did our chores and I made sure she did her homework. Mom gets home from work soon and I help her make dinner. The minute dinner is set on the table dad gets home with impeccable timing. After helping clean up dinner I retreat to my room to do my homework. I pull out my Spanish homework and see Calum’s sloppy handwriting. I frown remembering how I had to rush out on him.Was he really about to kiss me? Me? Me, the completely ordinary, boring girl who he hasn’t even noticed until now? Why would he even want to be near me? He’s too good for me. Of course he wasn’t going to kiss me.I shake the thoughts out of my head and put on an episode of The Big Bang Theory and fall asleep.…I meet up with Kim and Jess for lunch. We go through the line grabbing whatever looks appetizing. We pay, then sit at our regular spot and start eating. My eyes wonder around the lunch room, as they do I try to convince myself that I’m not looking for him. Deep down I know I am searching for that curly brown haired boy who wouldn’t stay out of my dreams last night. I spot him sitting with his friends. He looks over to me, catching me stare at him, I quickly look down to my tray of mashed potatoes and gravy, my cheeks heating up.I glance up to see him still looking at me and he grins. I shake my head and smile too, not knowing why. I look at Kim, who’s talking about something I have no idea of. I try to focus on what she’s saying, but I can’t and every few seconds I look over at Calum, him doing the same thing. About the fifteenth time, I look over to see an empty spot where he was sitting. I search the rest of the big room for him and he’s no where to be seen. I frown slightly before getting into the conversation with Kim and Jess.“How was Ms. Hart today Ember?” Jess asks me smirking, knowing my hatred towards the teacher.“Thankfully there was a sub today. We just did this long packet that will probably not even get graded.” I grumble and shove some mashed potatoes in my mouth. She just nods and it’s quiet for a minute.“So senior prom is coming up.” Kim brings up and I zone out of the conversation, not caring about senior prom. It’s not like anyone would ask me.Kim convinces me to stay at lunch with them for the full time, her needing some help in one of the classes I’ve already taken. The lunch bell rings, so I say my goodbyes to Kim and Jess, and go to my next class, World History. It’s the most boring subject, the sixty year old teacher’s monotone voice nearly puts me to sleep every class. It’s right before Spanish, so of course it seems like we’re in the class for ten hours instead of one. When the bell finally rings, I jump out of my seat and hurry to Spanish, the butterflies of excitement and nervousness flutter around my stomach.I find my seat and wait for the class to start. Calum arrives with the group of friends he constantly is around, seconds before the bell rings. Mr. Garcia tells us to work on our country reports, and my nervousness triples. I get up and walk to Calum’s seat. He’s scribbling something down in his notebook while his friend is talking to him.“Hey Calum.” my voice comes out quietly and I mentally curse at myself. He looks up and smiles, “Oh hi Ember.”“Wait you’re Ember?” his friends eyes widen and he stares at me as if I’m from another planet.“Um yeah…..” I scrunch my eyebrows together, looking at Calum who’s face is in his hands.“Wow Cal, I thought she wo-” he gets cut off when Calum kicks him extremely hard in the shin.“Shit dude!” he clutches his leg, many other profanities coming out of his mouth.I stand there awkwardly having no idea of what was happening. Did Calum talk to his friend about me? More importantly about what happened yesterday? What if he told him that I was a creepy girl who tried to kiss him. My negative thoughts get interrupted when Calum speaks.“Lets go to the back.” Calum gets up and walks to the back leaving his friend there in pain.I follow him and we sit in the same spot as yesterday. I stay quiet and get the paper out we started our report on. Calum awkwardly clears his throat and I look up at him.“Sorry about Tyler, he’s a bit of an airhead.” he scratches the back of his neck.I just nod and continue to work on our report. He sighs and starts to work as well. After about a half hour of working, he sets his pencil down, looking up at me.“So about yesterday…” he trails off. I already know where this is going. He’s going to tell me that it was something we should both forget about, and go back to our daily lives, me being totally non-existent to him. What he says next takes me by complete surprise.“You were amazing.”“What?” I sputter incredulously. The look of confusion fills his features, “I said that you were amazing.” he says slowly.“Thanks,” I reply after a few seconds of recovering from my shock, “you were too, at guitar and singing.”He grins, “Thank you. I’d um… like to a.. do that again sometime..” he smiles shyly. My eyes widen and I start to grin, “Me too, it was fun. I’m sorry that I rushed out on you, I completely forgot that I had to pick up my little sister.”“You’re fine. I was late for practice.” he laughs softly, a soft smile adorning his face.“Really? I’m sorry! I hope that you didn’t get into too much trouble.”He chuckles and shakes his head, “Nah, I just had to run a couple extra laps, nothing I couldn’t handle.”I nod and smile, not knowing what to say.“So I was wondering if you-” he gets cut off by Tyler clapping a hand on his shoulder, extremely hard.Calum winces and turns around, “Dude!” he groans and starts to rub his shoulder.“I was just paying you back for giving me a dead leg. Great idea to do that when we have a game today.” he glares at Calum who rolls his eyes.“You guys have a game today?” I pipe in.“Yeah! It’s one of our last home games of the season, you should definitely come. I know the team would just love to have you cheering us on.” he winks at Calum.I look between them trying to figure out what he’s talking about. I wonder what is going on in their mental conversation. Calum is giving Tyler a death glare and shaking his head, whilst Tyler is grinning at Calum obnoxiously, nodding his head.“Okay…” I trail off, oblivious to what’s going on.“So you’ll come?” Tyler asks, and Calum looks at me to see my answer.“Sure, why not?” I answer, after a second of careful thinking.“Great! It starts at 6, and sit on the south side of the field, I think you’ll enjoy that view.” Tyler winks at me and the bell rings. He drags Calum away before he can say anything to me. ________________ Chapter 3!
