As a part of Pride’s Target First Saturday tomorrow, we’re teaming up with our friends at Tarab NYC to show new releases and premiere new work by queer Arab filmmakers to coincide with Ramadan! Afterwards, Tarab NYC hosts a conversation with filmmakers on how film can expand traditional notions of gender and be used as a tool to dismantle homophobia, Islamophobia, and Orientalism. Highlights include:The world premiere of Anya Kneez: A Queen in Beirut (Mohamad Abdouni, 2017, 11 min.) a short documentary out of Lebanon which offers a glimpse into the life of the person who brought drag from the slums of Brooklyn to the clubs of Beirut. The east coast premiere of Breaking Fast (Mike Mosallam, 2015, 18 min.) which follows Mo, a practicing Muslim who reluctantly attends his best friend’s birthday party and falls for Kal, a secular All-American, on the holiest night during the month of Ramadan.Arrive early at 4:30pm for limited free tickets and check out the full lineup of films via Tarab NYC here!
