Time to talk about WIP! I recently finished a modern zen house for a client on Famfrit. I did his Star Citizen build that I called a Minimalist Suite. I’d say his style is mostly futuristic modern, with a bit of east Asian, and he really enjoys open concept. Both times I worked on his house I had a lot of fun, but I will say with the recent remodel, it’s the only time I actively PLANNED and came PREPARED. I started out with that crazy wall. It was always going to be a certain way, with the walls and the lines. I had a very strong image in my head of specifically that.I knew the bed was going to be in the air. He had really liked his previous bed that I made him and, in order to recreate it, I had to have it floated. Initially I had basic steps but the more I looked at it, the more I reminded myself that this was meant to be a modern house. It’s okay to play with flat shapes, and geometric patterns, so I made the stair platforms bigger and bigger. I always knew the rock garden would be beside the stairs, because I wanted to emulate my old bathhouse a bit. The bedroom had a view of a courtyard. I thought it was so pretty and such a neat idea to make the garden inline with the steps! I had prepared the bedroom and bathroom, and I knew it was going to be sunken and in line with the floor. Initially I wanted a ledge, and I kind of wish I had kept it, so that’s my only regret with this build lol Look how pretty this would have been! The living room was the only hurdle. I had made this cool fireplace, and at this point in time I reaaaaaally hadn’t made anything “Asian” beyond the bath tub and garden. I was really into making a smooth walled corner with the wood showing, and I was determined to make it work with Wooden Staircase Bookshelves since I’m a masochist. The client didn’t like that window type, which is fine, I still kept the corner, but I tucked screens in there instead! ALSO he took this time to tell me he didn’t want a kitchen at the very end, and here I had made a spot specifically for a kitchen, so I was panicking. But I made one, anyway. And he ended up loving it. LAST BUT NOT LEAST! As a meme, I made a squatty potty, but that didn’t last. it lives on in my heart, however. -- source link
