Every year, to mark the transition from Israel’s Memorial Day to Independence Day, 12 torches are lit by citizens chosen for their accomplishments. This year we honor trailblazers:Professor Marta Weinstock-Rosin, who developed Exelon, a drug used to slow dementia caused by Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Weinstock-Rosin, an Orthodox Jew, fled Vienna with her family in 1939 after her father was arrested for being Jewish. Her family settled in England, and Weinstock-Rosin emigrated to Israel in 1969. Since 1983, she has been head of Hebrew University’s School of Pharmacy, and was awarded the Israel Prize for Medicine in 2014.The ceremony will be held on April 23, 2015, 12:45pm EST.(Photo by Nati Shohat/Hebrew University’s “Innovator’s Way” exhibition)Israel in the USA -- source link
