dr-vulpine:dantes-infernal-chili:dragonfox-in-a-teacup:weasowl:dopeluminarydreamer:the-future-now:That’s Louis Rossman, a repair technician and YouTuber, who went viral recently for railing against Apple. Apple purposely charges a lot for repairs and you either have to pay up or buy a new device. That’s because Apple withholds necessary tools and information from outside repair shops. And to think, we were just so close to change.Follow @the-future-nowReblog if you:Have an iPhone and are in need of repairsHave a friend with that problemHate Apple and are more than happy to spite them in some wayNo one will know which is itThis guy inspired me to repair my own macbook. First of all, you should know that I am not… like, I have to look up HOW to look up what my computer specifications are. Tech, that ware either soft or hard, is not a subject in which I experience comfort or competence. But my puppy peed on my keyboard, and I asked the apple store, or the fucking mac cafe, or the godsdamn Computer House Chill Zone or whatever cute ass name they have for their bullshit store, and they said it would be TWELVE HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE MY KEYBOARD. I’m not even exaggerating. So I asked the internet, well how hard IS it to repair? And I saw this guy’s video, and while I am no techie, I AM fueled by spite, so I was all “oh, they do that shit on purpose specifically so they can charge me $1200 bucks or make me buy a new computer hunh? FUCK THEM” and I bought all the tools I needed for about $25 and I bought all the parts I needed for about another $25 and I watched a few tutorial videos, and I replaced my own keyboard. So, once you are doing the actual deed, it becomes pretty obvious that they are finding creative ways to make this much harder than it has to be on purpose. On thing that stood out to me is, instead of all the tiny screws being the same size, there are about two dozen very slightly different sizes. They could easily be all the same size, or like, two sizes at most, but no.These mother fuckers will take a panel that screws into place and they’ll use a different size screw for each corner. They are so close that you almost cannot tell them apart visually, but they each will only screw into the matching corner. Like, it’s a pretty clear “fuck you” to anyone trying to do repairs.anyway, this guy is also fueled by spite, and doing holy work, and I have mad respectThis is awesome. Man is doing good ass deeds 24/7 because he’s giving people control. How dare you not leave a link to his channel, this guy is the savior of the modern world.Remember, JTAG connectors are trash, and FANSPIN.He once did a repair where he drank some jagermeister to prove even partially buzzed, ANYONE can fix a macbook. <-(entire sentence is direct link to video)Rossman also has cats.A schematic once was plastered on the inside panel of man an American product, with part numbers, and/or a number to call, or an address to order directly from the manufacturer. You had the option to repair it yourself, or hire someone to do it for you.Back when we knew how to make our own shit. Before the ultra cheap, “Made in China” on absolutely everything.Anyway, Apple Corporation claims to recycle, but they SHRED everything. Goes straight to landfill. Opposite of recycle. Outside of the slave factories, (that are here in the US) boards that they were told to throw away, were saved from the landfill, and forwarded to people that would rescue the fully working components from those boards. Those components, genuine parts, btw, would end up BACK INSIDE of genuine products. Lessening what ended up in the landfill. Then Apple Corp reared its ugly head and decided they hated not making $1,100+ profit off of making you buyLICENSE a newer, overpriced paperweight, and started destroying everything under supervised guard.Apple Corp has US Customs on a leash to seize genuine, Apple Corp branded parts and DESTROY THEM. Rossman’s had this happen to him multiple times. So, by that logic, there’s NOTHING inside a macbook, since parts like batteries are a scam made up by unauthorized 3rd parties trying to compromise your … national security network or whatever.Oh, and he’s been fighting for our right to repair, because asshole corporations pay some randos to go lie to legislators, council people, and especially governments of many cities about ‘the dangers and extreme risks’ about letting someone repair a broken SCREEN:“a credible threat to national security”. ESA (not the European Space Agency, mind you) throws this kind of shit around as if the consumer is automatically a criminal for wanting their stuff repaired without being scammed by the absurdity that is “affordable repair options from the manufacturer”. The post above about how much they were being quoted for an absurd repair. The $1200 is only ONE of the costs. They’ll always find something else to charge. ‘Labor’ being one of them. usually to the tune of $600 - $800. Good chance your data would be wiped as well. ASSUMING you don’t get sent a random swap unit. “No, this is clearly the unit you sent in. You are wrong.” -- source link
